  • Publication number: 20230338013
Abstract: A biological sample collection system includes (i) a sample collection vessel having an opening for receiving a biological sample, (ii) a selectively movable valve comprising a core and a collar disposed about the core, and (iii) a sealing cap coupled to the collar and including a reagent chamber for storing a measure of sample preservation reagent. The sealing cap is configured to associate and form a fluid tight connection with the sample collection vessel. Associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes a physical rearrangement of the core relative to the collar such that a fluid vent associated with the core is placed into fluid communication with the reagent chamber, thereby permitting sample preservation reagent to pass from the regent chamber to the sample collection vessel.

  • Publication number: 20230320706
Abstract: A biological sample collection system includes (i) a sample collection vessel having an opening for receiving a biological sample, (ii) a selectively movable valve comprising a core and a collar disposed about the core, and (iii) a sealing cap coupled to the valve and including a reagent chamber for storing a sample preservation reagent. The valve is configured to retain the sample preservation reagent in the reagent chamber when the valve is in a closed configuration. The sealing cap is configured to associate and form a fluid tight connection with the sample collection vessel. Associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes the valve to be placed in an open configuration in which a fluid vent through the core is placed into fluid communication with the reagent chamber, thereby causing or allowing sample preservation reagent to pass from the regent chamber to the sample collection vessel.

  • Publication number: 20230301639
Abstract: A biological sample collection system can include (i) a sample collection vessel having an opening for receiving a biological sample, (ii) a plug assembly that includes a post with a fluid vent therethrough, a collar disposed about the post, and a plug that initially obstructs the fluid vent, and (iii) a sealing cap coupled to the collar and comprising a reagent chamber for storing a sample preservation reagent. The sealing cap is configured to associate and form a fluid tight connection with the sample collection vessel such that associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes a physical rearrangement of the plug assembly such that the plug is detached from the post, thereby permitting sample preservation reagent to pass from the regent chamber to the sample collection vessel.

  • Patent number: 11712692
Abstract: A biological sample collection system can include a sample collection vessel having an opening configured to receive a biological sample and a selectively movable valve configured to at least partially associate with the opening of the sample collection vessel. The selectively movable valve can include a post and a valve head associated with a distal portion of the post. The system can additionally include a sealing cap configured to associate with the selectively movable valve and with the sample collection vessel. The sealing cap can include a reagent chamber for storing a measure of sample preservation reagent and associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes a physical rearrangement of the post and the valve head such that a fluid vent associated with the post aligns with an aperture defined by the valve head allowing fluid communication between the reagent chamber and the sample collection vessel.

  • Publication number: 20230054207
Abstract: A biological sample collection system includes: a sample collection vessel having a sample collection chamber for receiving a biological sample; a sealing cap including a reagent chamber for storing a sample preservation reagent and being configured to associate with the sample collection vessel; and a selectively movable valve at least partially disposed within the sealing cap. The selectively movable valve includes a post with an interior chamber and fluid vent and a valve head associated with a distal portion of the post that initially occludes the fluid vent when the valve is in the closed configuration. Associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel causes a physical rearrangement of the post and the valve head in order for the fluid vent to become unoccluded by the valve head, thereby placing the valve in an open configuration and allowing fluid communication between the reagent chamber and the sample collection vessel.

  • Publication number: 20210085296
Abstract: A biological sample collection system can include a sample collection vessel having a closed first end and an open second for receiving a biological sample. The system can additionally include a sealing cap configured to associate with the sample collection vessel, a reagent chamber secured within an interior space of the sealing cap and retaining a measure of sample preservation solution, a shim circumferentially associated with a proximal end of the reagent chamber and spanning the distance between the reagent chamber and the interior sidewall of the sealing cap, and a plug having a diaphragm configured to selectively engage the shim and form a seal for retaining the sample preservation solution within the reagent chamber. Associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel displaces the diaphragm from the shim and breaks the seal formed therebetween, opening a fluid path between the reagent chamber and the sample collection chamber.
