Patent number: 11944325Abstract: A system for robotic surgery makes use of an end-effector which has been configured so that a drill connected thereto is guided in its trajectory and limited in its advancement into an associated anatomical feature by a drill guide. The drill guide may be adjusted manually to engage a corresponding surface of the drill after its advancement by a pre-selected amount. The drill guide likewise includes features to guide the drill during trajectories having oblique angles relative to the surface of the anatomical feature associated with the medical procedure.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2022Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Globus Medical, Inc.Inventors: Hayden Cameron, Spiros Mantzavinos, Neil R. Crawford, Sanjay Joshi, Norbert Johnson, James Cascarano, Justin Larson, Stephen Cicchini, Ross Morris, Christopher Angelucci

Publication number: 20240090884Abstract: A surgical robot system includes a robot having a robot base and a robot arm coupled to the robot base, and a surgical retractor. The surgical retractor includes a retractor frame, a coupler, blades, a force and/or torque sensor, and a force and/or torque feedback determination unit. The retractor frame includes arms that are translatably and/or pivotably connected to the retractor frame. The coupler releasably attaches the retractor frame to the robot arm. The blades are each coupled to and extend away from a distal end of one of the arms. The force and/or torque sensor is connected to the blades and indicates an amount of force and/or torque being applied to the blades from contact with material of a surgical site. The force and/or torque feedback determination unit determines the amount of force and/or torque being applied to the blades based on the indication.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Adam Friedrich, Neil R. Crawford, Kevin Zhang, Sanjay Joshi, Norbert Johnson, Weston Healy

Publication number: 20240065707Abstract: A system of robotic surgery includes components capable of drilling a bore in the cranium of a patient in connection with craniotomy and other cranial surgeries. A perforator associated with such system is controlled by suitable computer-implemented instructions to maintain the perforator tip along a desired trajectory line while moving the perforator bit at locations proximal to such perforator tip in a circular motion, thereby imparting a conical oscillation to the perforator bit relative to the trajectory line. The angle at which the perforator bit is oscillated relative to such trajectory line results in the bore formed in the cranium having a diameter larger than the bit diameter, and the larger diameter and related conical oscillation is selected so as to reduce frictional force opposing withdrawal of the bit from the situs of the bore, thereby reducing the risk of jamming of the bit during its associated operations.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2023Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Hayden Cameron, Spiros Mantzavinos, Neil R. Patent number: 9369186Abstract: According to one aspect, a method includes determining when a first device and a second device are in proximity to each other, wherein the first device includes a first microphone and the second device includes a second microphone. The method also includes pairing the first device and the second device, and creating a mobile mapping of the physical relationship between the first device and the second device. Pairing the first device and the second device forms a microphone array that includes the first microphone and the second microphone. An aggregate stream is created using a first stream obtained from the first microphone and a second stream obtained from the second microphone. Creating the aggregate stream includes using the model mapping to determine when to use the first stream and when to use the second stream. Finally, the method also includes transmitting the aggregate stream.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2014Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Michael Gregory Rexroad, Neil Joshi

Patent number: 8624953Abstract: Particular embodiments generally relate to providing different censoring levels for audio-video streams. In one embodiment, an audio-video stream is received. Metadata including censoring information for the audio-video stream is also received. The audio-video stream and metadata may be sent by a source in separate streams. A first level of censoring associated with a first receiver is determined along with a second level of censoring for a second receiver. A first audio-video stream is generated for the first receiver with a first censor level and a second audio-video stream is generated for the second receiver with a second censor level. For example, the first audio-video stream may include censoring of faces and the second audio-video stream may be an audio-video stream without censoring or may censor some other part of the audio-video. The first audio-video stream and the second audio-video stream are then sent to the first and second receivers, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2012Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Neil Joshi, Michael Rexroad

Publication number: 20120092444Abstract: A method is provided in one example and includes receiving a request to establish a video session between a first user and a second user. The request is sent by the second user by dialing an identifier string associated with the first user. The method also includes evaluating whether the first user has accepted the request. If the first user has not accepted the request over a designated interval, then the second user is directed to an element configured for recording a videomail message for access by the first user. The method also includes identifying the first user has accepted the request, and establishing the video session between the first user and the second user.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2010Publication date: April 19, 2012Inventors: David J. Mackie, Shamim Pirzada, Neil Joshi, Kristen Marie Robins, Binh Don Ha, Jaime F. Guerrero
