Patent number: 11873691Abstract: A technique facilitates anchoring between tubular structures in various well applications. The technique may utilize a load anchor having a radially expandable mandrel with an interior passage. Circumferential biasing members are mounted around the mandrel and each circumferential biasing member has a biasing surface. Additionally, a gripper system is positioned axially between the circumferential biasing members. The gripper system is configured such that engagement with the biasing surface of either circumferential biasing member causes radially outward biasing of the gripper system upon movement of the mandrel in either axial direction. A sealing element also may be disposed about the mandrel. The configuration of the gripper system and the circumferential biasing members protects the sealing element against undue axial movement once the load anchor is radially expanded into engagement with a surrounding surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2020Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Peter Wood, Neil Thomson, Davidson Harman

Patent number: 9752419Abstract: A hydraulic fluid delivery tool for morphing a tubular downhole and a method of morphing a tubular downhole. The tool has spaced apart annular elastomer seal assemblies which operate by application of a piston against each elastomer to create a seal against the tubular. A first hydraulic fluid delivery line delivers fluid at a first pressure to operate the pistons. A second hydraulic fluid delivery line delivers fluid at a second pressure, lower than the first, to a location between the seals to morph the tubular and act on a second face of each piston to assist in maintaining the seal.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2015Date of Patent: September 5, 2017Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: David Glen Martin, Neil Thomson

Patent number: 9739121Abstract: A pressure intensifier for morphing tubulars downhole. An elongate mandrel defines an inner bore, being co-axially located within an elongate hollow outer cylindrical body to form a co-axial annular bore therebetween. Pistons are mounted upon the mandrel with each piston having an annular fluid facing face extending across the annular bore, with fluid communication between the inner bore and the annular bore to act upon each face. Stops are located on an inner surface of the outer cylindrical body to limit travel of each piston. A morph fluid is located in the annular bore between an opposing face of a first piston and a first stop, with the first stop having delivery ports to deliver the morph fluid at a greater pressure than the pressure of fluid delivered through the inner bore.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2015Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventor: Neil Thomson

Publication number: 20160194933Abstract: An apparatus (10) and method for securing a tubular (12) within another tubular or borehole (80), creating a seal across an annulus in a wellbore (80), and centralising or anchoring tubing within a wellbore. A sleeve (14) is arranged on a tubular body (12) to create a chamber (16) therebetween. A port (18) provides fluid access through the body to the chamber. The chamber is filled with a swellable material (20). Thus the sleeve can be morphed to secure it to a well bore wall by the use of fluid pressure and an activated swellable material, the swellable material being used to support the sleeve to maintain a seal between the sleeve and well bore wall to form an isolation barrier.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2014Publication date: July 7, 2016Applicant: Meta Downhole LimitedInventors: Daniel O'Brien, Neil Thomson
