Patent number: 11772367Abstract: A laminated glazing comprising first and second sheets of glass joined by an interlayer structure is described. The second sheet of glass has a first edge surface in an upper region of the laminated glazing. The first edge surface of the second sheet of glass is configured to comprise at least one region between first and second edges of the second sheet of glass such that in the at least one region the shortest distance along a straight line on the first edge surface of the second sheet of glass connecting a first point on the first edge of the second sheet of glass to a second point on the second edge of the second sheet of glass is at least 1.7 times the thickness of the second sheet of glass. A method of making the laminated glazing is also described.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2019Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: PILKINGTON GROUP LIMITEDInventors: Gustavo Benedetto, Neil Winstanley

Patent number: 11511525Abstract: A laminated glazing comprising first and second sheets of glass joined together by an interlayer structure comprising at least first and second layers of adhesive interlayer material with a support sheet therebetween is disclosed. The laminated glazing is arranged such that the first layer of adhesive interlayer material is between the first sheet of glass and the support sheet, the second layer of adhesive interlayer material is between the second sheet of glass and the support sheet support material and at least a portion of the second major surface of the first sheet of glazing material faces the first major surface of the second sheet of glazing material. In the event of breakage of the first sheet of glass, the second layer of adhesive interlayer material remains attached to the support sheet thereby keeping the second glass sheet from becoming detached from the laminated glazing.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2019Date of Patent: November 29, 2022Assignee: PILKINGTON GROUP LIMITEDInventors: Neil Winstanley, Marco Ronci, Neil John Durbin, Gustavo Benedetto, Massimo Michetti

Publication number: 20220340471Abstract: A method for shaping a coated glass sheet involves conveying the coated glass sheet through a furnace to heat the coated glass sheet to a temperature suitable for shaping. The coated glass sheet is then deposited on a first bending tool for supporting the coated glass sheet and is at a first position relative to the first bending tool. A first portion of the coated glass sheet is contacted to move the coated glass sheet to a second position relative to the first bending tool. The coated glass sheet is then shaped on the first bending tool. Other aspects include a method for adjusting the position of a hot coated glass sheet on a bending tool and a shaping line for shaping a coated glass sheet comprising a positioning device for contacting a first portion of a coated glass sheet on a bending tool to adjust the position thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2020Publication date: October 27, 2022Applicant: Pilkington Group LimitedInventors: Neil WINSTANLEY, Andrew Thomas STANLEY, Josef BANAS

Publication number: 20080318028Abstract: An automotive glazing, comprising first and second plies of a glazing material having an interlayer laminated therebetween is provided. The glazing has a thickness suitable for replacing a single ply toughened or tempered side or door glazing, or an existing laminated glazing in an automotive vehicle. The glazing meets at least one of: a) test 9 of ANSI standard Z 26.1 (1996) using a 196 to 201 g steel dart dropped from a height of 9.14 metres; b) test 12 of ANSI standard Z 26.1 (1996) using a 224 to 230 g steel ball dropped from a height of 9.14 metres; and c) the ball-impact test of ECE Regulation number 43 for a 225 to 229 g steel ball dropped from a height of 5 metres. Preferably, the interlayer has a thickness of less than 0.76 mm, and the automotive glazing a thickness of less than 5 mm.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 2, 2007Publication date: December 25, 2008Applicant: Pilkington Group LimitedInventors: Neil Winstanley, Neil Durbin

Publication number: 20030022001Abstract: A laminated glazing (20), suitable for automotive use, includes an infra-red reflecting film (26) bonded between a ply of ionomer resin (24) and a ply of a polymer material (28), wherein the polymer (28) material has a viscosity at the temperature and pressure required for lamination greater than that of the ionomer resin (24). Shrinkage of the infra-red reflecting film in reduced is comparison with a known similar glazing.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2002Publication date: January 30, 2003Inventors: Neil John Durbin, Neil Barton, Neil Winstanley, Brian Edward Clieve

Patent number: 6280847Abstract: An intrusion resistant laminated glazing, suitable for automotive use, comprises an impact resistant ply of rigid thermoplastic polyurethane sensitive to ultra-violet radiation and, outside said ply, an ultra-violet absorbing or reflecting ply. The ultra-violet absorbing ply may be of thermoplastic polyurethane interlayer material which serves to bond the rigid thermoplastic polyurethane ply to outer glass plies. By using interlayer materials of low modulus to bond the rigid thermoplastic ply to outer glass plies, a product with good impact resistance and intrusion resistance is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1998Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Pilkington PLCInventors: Philip Harold Corkhill, Malcolm Francis Green, Neil Winstanley, Paul Arthur Holmes
