  • Patent number: 5829960
Abstract: A suction inlet passage in a cylinder block of a rotary compressor includes a generally symmetrical diverging port which has generally conic cross-sections that divergingly open into a cylinder bore. The diverging port provides a buffer cavity which reduces pulsations and associated noise. The suction inlet passage is further provided with an entrance passage and a narrower passage, which is disposed between the entrance passage and the diverging port and which has a smaller cross-section than either the entrance passage or the diverging port. The suction inlet passage serves as a diffuser with the narrower passage functioning as the throat of the diffuser so as to increase volumetric efficiency with respect to the suction gas entering the cylinder bore. The diverging port extends the point of suction inlet close-off, and correspondingly enlarges the close-off angle, resulting in extending the period of unclosed compression and enhancing the supercharging effect.

  • Patent number: 5775885
Abstract: A hermetically sealed reciprocating refrigeration compressor has a suction gas arrangement including a suction gas plenum formed integral with a cylinder block for supplying suction gas directly to a cylinder so as to eliminate the need for external suction gas conduits. Apertures are formed about the circumference of the cylinder for receiving suction gas directly from the suction gas plenum. Pistons are provided with multiple suction gas entrances and a semi-toroidal suction valve to provide an efficient way of introducing suction gas into a compression chamber during a suction stroke of the compressor. A spherical discharge valve assembly is provided in a valve plate adjacent the compression chamber for improved flow characteristics and increased through flow area.

  • Patent number: 5701668
Abstract: A refrigeration compressor includes a polyamide annular thrust bearing pressfit within a countersunk recess in the rotor aperture and having radially extending lubricating oil grooves on a lower surface thereof. A vertical crankshaft being concentrically disposed within and secured to the rotor at one end and being journalled for rotation within a vertical bore defined by a bearing hub formed in a frame. The bearing hub supports the rotor and crankshaft combination. The bearing hub includes an upper end face which is machine ground and polished to a smooth surface and which is in contact with the smooth lower surface of the thrust bearing thereby forming a frictional pair. A reduction in mechanical friction and power consumption is realized by use of the polyamide thrust bearing and the smooth polishing of the hub upper end face thereby increasing the overall efficiency associated with the refrigeration compressor.

  • Patent number: 5499571
Abstract: A compressor containing a reciprocating piston connected to a connecting rod by a wrist pin. The wrist pin is floatingly disposed within the wrist pin bore in the piston by two transverse pin members disposed within bores in the piston which locate the wrist pin therebetween. Incidental cylinder bore contact by the wrist pin is prevented by the pin members.

  • Patent number: 5498143
Abstract: A scroll compressor including a flywheel attached to the rotor of the motor. The flywheel prevents reverse rotation of the orbiting scroll during current interruption or normal compressor shutdown. Additionally, the flywheel prevents destruction of the oil in oil sump around the lubrication oil pick up.

  • Patent number: 5476371
Abstract: A compressor assembly is disclosed including a compressor mechanism mounted within a hermetically sealed housing. A cylinder block contains a reciprocating piston having a suction valve assembly. The piston includes a head with a deep semitorus shaped annular groove with a similarly shaped solid suction valve that seats thereto. A retaining mechanism including a clamping bolt with a plurality of radially extending fingers is used to reduce valve inertia and impact forces. The fingers behave as cantilevered beam springs.

  • Patent number: 5342179
Abstract: A hermetic compressor including a plurality of shock mount units attached between the housing and a compressor unit disposed within the housing. Each shock mount unit includes a coil spring to damp vertical movement of the compressor unit with a U-shaped spring to damp horizontal movement of the compressor unit. The U-shaped spring is in sliding contact with a shock mount bracket attached between the coil spring and the housing, so that lateral oscillations of the compressor unit and sound transmission through the housing are reduced.

  • Patent number: 5339652
Abstract: A hermetic compressor including a vibration damper situated around the outside of the compressor housing. The vibration damper is constructed from a length of wire wrapped around the housing to form a plurality of windings each winding in contact simultaneously with an adjacent one and the housing. The wire is wrapped about portions of the housing having the highest acceleration and vibration production potential. Alternatively, the windings may be formed of separate wires connected to a bracket and, further, more than one layer of windings of the equal or different diameters is possible.

  • Patent number: 5281110
Abstract: An oil baffle means for sealing and separating the running gear cavity in a hermetic reciprocating piston compressor from an oil sump in a lower part of the compressor housing. The oil baffle includes a L-shaped flange connected to the outboard bearing and crankcase of the compressor. Horizontal ribs and a dimple on the vertical portion of the oil baffle bias the baffle into sealing contact with the crankcase preventing oil from the oil sump to flow into the running gear cavity.

  • Patent number: 5224840
Abstract: A gas flow system for a hermetic compressor is described which reduces the transfer of heat from the cylinder head and the hot discharge gases along with other hot internal compressor parts, wherein a separately formed suction tube is made from a low thermal conductivity plastic and is adapted to be received in a separately formed cylinder head. The cylinder head includes discharge chambers formed integrally therein but is adapted to receive the suction tube, while the suction tube includes a conduit defining a suction plenum having a suction inlet and adjutages extending transverse to the conduit which extend to the valve plate and communicate with openings in the cylinder head in order that the refrigerant flowing therein bypass the hot cylinder head and flows directly into the cylinder. The gas flow system also provides cooling for the motor in which a part of the refrigerant which flows into the suction tube is directed through the motor.

  • Patent number: 5090657
Abstract: The present invention is a cable reinforced mounting system. Springs suspend a motor-compressor within a housing, and coaxial cables extend between the housing and the motor-compressor to dampen vibration and stabilize its position both vertically and horizontally. The cable ends have cable terminators for mounting the cable. The cable terminators are formed by metal injection molding and engage mounting brackets of the housing and on the mounts of the motor-compressor unit.
