Patent number: 10098128Abstract: A method for establishing wireless communication between a transmitter and a receiver in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The receiver includes an adaptive array that has at least two antennas. Each antenna receives a signal and produces a received signal. The transmitter includes at least two transmission channels for communicating the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. The wireless communication system suppresses interference at the receiver by applying an interference suppression technique when combining the received signals. The selection of a channel at the transmitter is based on the channel performance at the receiver for each transmission channel. The channel performance is based on a combining technique different from the interference suppression technique.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2017Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY II, L.P.Inventors: Jack H. Publication number: 20140119205Abstract: Hybrid multi-cell channel estimation. At least two different operational modes associated with performing multi-cell channel estimation are combined and performed within different respective iterations of processing in order to generate a multi-cell channel estimate. A device, including at least one wireless interface to support communications with at least one other device and also including at least one processor to process signals received by or to be transmitted from, is operative to generate a multi-cell channel estimate corresponding to two or more respective cells with which the device may communicate. A first operational mode corresponds to time domain (TDOM) based per-tap serial interference cancellation (SIC), and a second operational mode corresponds to frequency domain (FDOM) based per-cell SIC. Single chip wireless transceiver operable to perform voice, data and radio frequency (RF) processing
Patent number: 8073397Abstract: A single chip wireless transceiver operable to perform voice, data and radio frequency (RF) processing is provided. This processing may be divided between various processing modules. This single chip includes a processing module having an ARM microprocessor and a digital signal processor (DSP), an RF section, and an interface module. The processing module converts an outbound voice signal into an outbound voice symbol stream, converts an inbound voice symbol stream into an inbound voice signal, converts outbound data into an outbound data symbol stream, and converts an inbound data symbol stream into inbound data. These functions may be divided between the ARM microprocessor and DSP, where the DSP supports physically layer type applications and the ARM microprocessor supports higher layer applications. Further bifurcation may be based on voice applications, data applications, and/or RF control.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2011Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Vafa James Rakshani, Nelson R. Patent number: 8068539Abstract: Adaptive interference cancellation algorithm using speech mode dependent thresholds. A method of processing radio frequency (RF) bursts dependent on a speech mode associated with data contained within the RF burst is presented. Different voice modes, full rate, half rate, and adaptive multi-channel rates each may require different signal to noise ratio (SNR) conditions in order to be successfully processed. To improve the equalization, the SNR associated with the burst is estimated. Based on the SNR or other related conditions, a decision can be made as to whether or not an interference cancellation burst process should be implemented. For example, any one or more of SNR of the signal, a measure of colored noise within the signal, an indication whether the signal being noise limited or interference limited, and a channel profile of the signal may indicate the presence of interference requiring the cancellation of such interference.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2010Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Arkady Molev-Shteiman, Nelson R.
