  • Publication number: 20140116890
Abstract: Systems and methods for a hydrogen evolution reaction catalyst are provided. Electrode material includes a plurality of clusters. The electrode exhibits bifunctionality with respect to the hydrogen evolution reaction. The electrode with clusters exhibits improved performance with respect to the intrinsic material of the electrode absent the clusters.

  • Publication number: 20130209898
Abstract: A composition of matter and method of manufacturing as thin film electrocatalyst. The method uses physical vapor deposition to deposit a thin film of PtM (Ma transition metal) to form a Pt based alloy and annealing the thin film to achieve a (111) hexagonal faceted grain structure having catalytic activity approaching Pt3Ni (111) skin.

  • Publication number: 20130004885
Abstract: A process includes patterning a surface of a platinum group metal-based electrode by contacting the electrode with an adsorbate to form a patterned platinum group metal-based electrode including platinum group metal sites blocked with adsorbate molecules and platinum group metal sites which are not blocked.

  • Publication number: 20080306706
Abstract: An accelerometer system comprises an accelerometer, a processor or threshold system connected to the accelerometer to receive electronic signals from accelerometer indicating acceleration and an annunciator connected to the processor or threshold system to receive electronic signals indicating the magnitude of acceleration. The annunciator produces a human discernable signal to notify of acceleration levels. The accelerometer system alerts vehicle operators of acceleration levels. The accelerometer system may be used to train vehicle operators to drive in a manner that reduces excessive acceleration. One embodiment prolongs battery life by turning off components in between measurements based on acceleration activity. Another embodiment packages the accelerometer system to fit into a cigarette lighter plug for vehicle use.

  • Publication number: 20070025849
Abstract: A device and method for generating a vortex within an air conduit of an internal combustion engine as well as a method of manufacturing such a device. The device focuses a portion of the air flowing into an air conduit into a number of tightly focused air streams tangent to a circle located concentrically within the lumen of the air conduit at a point downstream from the device. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the device contains a number of blades which are formed into tightly curled, open, truncated cone shapes (i.e. open frustroconical shapes) where the circumference of the curvature of the blade is smallest where the air first meets the blade and increases continuously across the width of the blade. In the preferred embodiment, the blades have rounded edges and extend only partway into the center of the device and are separated from each other by gaps.

  • Patent number: 6143512
Abstract: The CAP-PAP Test is a double-staining, single-slide microscopic method. An in vitro diagnostic medical device for manual and automatic staining and interpreting of the Pap smear for cervical cancer screening, cervical dysplasia and for follow-up therapy can be developed using this double-staining, single-slide microscopic method. Abnormal cervical cells are labeled with an intracellular acid phosphatase derived pigment (azo-dye) to improve visibility of abnormal cervical cells on conventionally stained Pap smears. The enzyme marker improves human perception and/or sensitivity of automatic instruments when distinguishing cell a abnormality and interpretation of Pap smears. Increased accuracy of CAP-PAP-vs-Pap test is expected to reduce false negative readings of the conventional Pap test. A rapid manual version of the test that is low cost, does not require additional personnel training and is instantly applicable in all cytopathology laboratories is provided.
