    Abstract: A video-on-demand system and method includes a cable provider having videos available for delivery to an STB associated with a user television. The user accesses the provider's Internet web site which lists titles of the videos to provide user identification (ID) information to the provider and to select a video. The provider uses the user ID information and information indicative of the selected video to deliver the title of the selected video to the STB via a cable network. The STB displays titles of videos previously selected by the user from the web site on the television in response to the user directing the STB to display titles of previously selected videos on the television. The provider delivers a previously selected video to the STB via the cable network for the STB to show on the television in response to the user choosing the title of the previously selected video.

    Abstract: A video-on-demand (VOD) method and system for use with a computer connected to the Internet includes an Internet website. The website lists videos available for delivery from a content provider to a cable provider subscriber. The subscriber uses the computer to select a video from the website. The cable provider receives the selected video from the content provider and then delivers the video to a television of the subscriber via the cable television network. The subscriber uses the computer to register an interest profile on the website. Information regarding the available videos is compared with the profile and an email is then sent to the subscriber via the Internet. The email contains information regarding the available videos corresponding to the profile. The subscriber requests a video identified in the email for delivery from the content provider to the television via the cable television network.

    Abstract: A method and system for planning and running video-on-demand (VOD) advertising includes a planner for planning advertising campaigns and an ad selector for running selected advertisements from selected ones of the campaigns. The campaigns are associated with household demographic classifications, video content category categories, household geographic locations, and/or video viewing times. In response to a viewer requesting a video, the selector selects the campaigns corresponding to the demographic classification associated with the viewer, the content category of the requested video, the geographic location associated with the viewer, and/or the viewing time at which the requested video is viewed. The demographic classification is determined by using an identifier of the viewer's set-top-box. The selector may select the campaigns corresponding to the content categories of the requested video. The content categories are determined by using an identifier associated with the requested video.
