  • Publication number: 20190390349
Abstract: Various embodiments of multi-component products are provided herein, with specific reference to methods of making the same. In some embodiments, the present invention is a method that includes feeding a heated gas to a powder feeder containing a powder having an element, spraying the powder from the powder feeder through a nozzle onto a surface of a substrate at a sufficient velocity to form a multi-component deposit on the substrate, and directing an energy beam from an energy source at the multi-component deposit to heat the multi-component deposit until the multi-component deposit is fixed to the substrate thereby forming a multi-component alloy coating on the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20150158263
Abstract: An embossing method and apparatus utilizes 3D printing by digitally dispensing\ink jet printing to apply texturing features to a work roll or a sheet that may be fed into a rolling mill to emboss sheet material like aluminum alloy sheet. The printed pattern is highly variable and may be produced quickly and easily allowing low volume embossing. The printed pattern may be removed from a work roll after use to allow the roll to be reused. Alternatively, a sheet receives the printed pattern, is rolled and then the printed material removed from the resultant depression.

  • Publication number: 20080092450
Abstract: The present invention provides a retractable door apparatus for trailer trucks including at least two tracks of extruded aluminum each having at least one guide surface with a wear resistant coating; and a door in slideable engagement to the guide surfaces of each track. The wear resistant coating may include a self fluxing alloy, oxide, carbide, Al bronze alloy, or cermet having a hardness greater than aluminum. The present invention also provides a method of forming the tracks for the sliding or rolling door apparatus including the steps of providing an aluminum extrusion having at least one guide surface with a geometry for accepting a roller bearing or rollers; and forming the wear resistant coating on the guide surfaces at a temperature that does not substantially reduce the mechanical properties of the aluminum extrusion.

  • Publication number: 20050087017
Abstract: An ultrasonic inspection system is used to inspect grinding wheels used to prepare work rolls used in metal sheet production. The grinding wheel inspection system includes a test stand adapted to rotatably support a grinding wheel. An ultrasonic transmitting and receiving apparatus passes sound waves through the body of the grinding wheel. The attenuation of the sound waves passed through the grinding wheel is recorded in a recording device and analyzed in a computer. The recording device, which may be the computer, preferably records amplitude attenuation of the sound waves. The computer analyzes the amplitude attenuation, records the amplitude attenuation as an indicated density profile, and displays the indicated density profile on a computer screen for inspection. The indicated density profile of the inspected grinding wheel may be compared with indicated density profiles of other grinding wheels, particularly those with known operational characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5476134
Abstract: Steel tooling for die-casting low iron content aluminum alloys is surface treated with a layer of CrN applied to a thickness of at least 4 microns, and preferably 5-10 microns, by physical vapor deposition (PVD), and preferably a steered are evaporation PVD process. The CrN protects the steel tooling from dissolution and erosion by the highly active molten aluminum.
