For instance, various embodiments described in this document provide features that can present media content items in the form of dynamic collection of media content items upon a user typing into a search bar. In another instance, various embodiments described herein improve media content search functionality by ranking user facing search features using input signals.

Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) for a messaging or chat application on a mobile electronic device launches, responsive to user-selection of a particular message cell in the GUI, a contextual message overlaid on an underlying scrollable message board or list. The action menu comprises a preview area displaying a preview of message content of the selected message cell, and further comprises one or more user-selectable action items for executing respective corresponding user actions with respect to the selected message. The preview area is automatically scaled and positioned dependent on one or more attributes of the selected message cell.

Abstract: Disclosed are media attachment systems to enable a user to embed a first media item with a link to a second media item, and distribute the first media item in a message to one or more recipient client devices. For example, the first media item may include a picture or video captured by a user at a client device. The user may generate a message that includes the first media item. In response, a media attachment system may cause display of an interface at the client device that includes an option to attach an address to a second media item to the message. For example, the second media item may include a web page, social media post, picture, or video identified by an address such as a Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

Abstract: Methods, devices, systems, and computer-readable media with instructions for text communications with imbedded audio or audiovisual elements are described. One embodiment involves displaying a user interface for chat communication with a time-ordered display space for communications. Text communications and audiovisual communications are each presented in associated rows within the user interface. Various embodiments enable audio or video notes as well as audio or video streaming or multi-user calls within the user interface with individual communications or connections presented within the time-ordered display. In some embodiments, communications within the display are deleted based on ephemeral message triggers.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure involve a system comprising a computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, method, and user interfaces to facilitate electronic chat conversations between users via multiple modes of electronic communication. A conversation view is displayed on a touch screen display of a client device. The conversation view presents messages exchanged between a first user and at least one other user in an electronic chat conversation. A user input comprising a touch gesture corresponding to an interaction with the display of the conversation view is received. Based on the user input, a camera feed view is displayed on the touch screen display. The camera feed view comprises a display of image data and enables a user to create a message comprising one or more images. A message is generated, and an indication of the message is displayed in the conversation view.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide for systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for annotating a collection of media items, such as digital images. According to some embodiments, an annotation system automatically determines one or more annotations for a plurality of media content items, and generates a collection of media content items that associates the determined annotations with the plurality of media content items. Depending on the embodiment, annotations that may be determined for the plurality of media content (and associated with the collection for the media content items) can include, without limitation, a caption, a geographic location, a category, a novelty measurement, an event, and a highlight media content item representing the collection.

Abstract: A map-based graphical user interface (GUI) for a social media platform provides a map window that displays an interactive map that is movable within the map window responsive to user input. User icons for respective friend users of a user associated with a client device on which the map-based GUI is generated are displayed in the map window at respective locations on the interactive map. A predefined portion of the map window defines a focus area. Context information for respective friend users are automatically surface for those friend icons located within the focus area, while such context information are automatically omitted or de-surfaced for those friend icons outside of the focus area.

Abstract: Method of generating a contextual application menu starts with processor causing client device's display screen to display a first and a second portion of the display screen in an inactivated position. Processor causes the first portion to display application interface associated with an application, and cause the second portion to display action bar that is associated with messaging system. Processor receives a selection from a user of the client device of a settings selectable item in the action bar and in response, processor generates a settings menu based a context of the client device. Processor then causes the first portion and the second portion of the display screen to be displayed in an activated position. Processor can cause the first portion of the display screen to contract, and cause the second portion of the display screen to expand and to comprise the settings menu. Abstract: Method of generating a contextual action bar starts with processor causing an application icon associated with an application to be displayed by a display screen of a client device. Processor receives selection of application icon from a user and determines a context of client device. Processor generates action bar based on the context of the client device, causes a first portion of display screen to display an application interface associated with the application, and causes a second portion to display the action bar that is associated with a messaging system. A device then causes generation of a combined action icon generated using the icon information and the action indicator and causes display of a map interface with the map data and the combined action icon positioned at a location indicated by the location information.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein include an expressive icon system to present an animated graphical icon, wherein the animated graphical icon is generated by capture facial tracking data at a client device. In some embodiments, the system may track and capture facial tracking data of a user via a camera associated with a client device (e.g., a front facing camera, or a paired camera), and process the facial tracking data to animate a graphical icon.
