  • Patent number: 9157624
Abstract: A modular LED light bulb is presented. The bulb comprises a bulb envelope and a removable screw base. A power supply within the bulb envelope connects to an electrolytic capacitor within the screw base. When the electrolytic capacitor in the screw base requires replacement, the screw base is detached from the bulb envelope, the depleted electrolytic capacitor is discarded, and a new electrolytic capacitor is connected to the power supply. The various embodiments increase the useful life of the LED light bulb. In another aspect, the screw base may be adapted to accept swappable modules to provide the light bulb with additional functionality. The swappable modules may provide the light bulb with wireless control and motion sensing.

  • Publication number: 20150181282
Abstract: A digital television is presented that stores multiple channel maps in its channel memory. Each map is associated with a particular geographic location. When the television moves to a new location, the location is identified and the television examines its memory for stored channel maps relevant to that location. If a relevant channel map is found, it is used without the television having to rescan the available television frequencies to create a new map for that location. When scans are required, they are expedited by examining a database of relevant frequencies for the television's location. The database identifies frequencies that are in use by television broadcasters near that location. The television then needs to scan only those frequencies identified in the received list, which reduces scan times.

  • Patent number: 8756637
Abstract: A geolocation smart antenna system is presented. In the system a database of television station information is provided. The database may include information such as channel number, broadcast frequency, network affiliation, and locations of one or more terrestrial television broadcast towers. An optimal antenna direction is determined based on a determined geographic location of an antenna and a geographic location of a broadcast tower. A system user selects a television program or television network broadcasted by a television station. A selection signal is sent to an antenna controller, and in response a television antenna is automatically oriented in an optimal direction toward a broadcast tower for the selected station. The selection signal may also be sent to a television receiver, and in response a television tuner is tuned to the station's radio frequency channel.

  • Publication number: 20140038489
Abstract: A system is presented for controlling an interactive electronic plush toy using a macro computer program created on a mobile electronic device using a mobile application. The plush toy is provided with an electronic wireless network interface for communicating wirelessly with the smartphone via a network. The macro provides computer programming for instructing the plush toy to perform an Internet search query, receive results of the query, and perform predetermined actions based on the query results. The actions may include producing sound or motion to make the toy seem life-like.

  • Publication number: 20140028437
Abstract: The present invention is a system and process for adjusting the performance of an electronic device based upon geographical location. For example, government regulations, applicable to a specific state or country, might limit energy usage by some device. The process involves accessing the location, accessing relevant constraints for that location and device, and taking appropriate actions if necessary. If the device were a television or monitor, a postal code might be entered during set-up or other configuration, possibly by a remote control operated through a user interface. Conversion from location and device type to required actions might be executed by logic on the device itself, or a remote location. The device might keep current with changes to regulations by receiving updates across a communication system such as the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20110164066
Abstract: An electronic reading device provides automatic adjustment of image display and key functionality. An actuator and a plurality of keys symmetrically control the electronic reading device. A built-in motion detection mechanism detects changes in the orientation of the electronic reading device. The content of the display and the functionality of the actuator and plurality of keys is automatically adjusted based on the orientation of the device such that the actuator and the plurality of keys perform identical functions in a current orientation as were performed in a previous orientation.

  • Publication number: 20060088292
Abstract: A method for determining and displaying the status of a user selectable parameter associated with a song stored in a digital audio player. The method allows a handheld player that has limited computing power to easily determine the status of the user selectable features and display the status. The method includes generating a preference table that is stored in a mass storage device associated with the player. The preference table includes an entry for each selected song stored on the mass storage device, wherein each entry includes a unique identifier and data fields having data indicative of the status of the user selectable parameters. The unique identifiers correspond to the unique identifiers stored in a playlist file. During navigation of the playlist, the unique identifier is compared with the preference table to identify the corresponding entry and the applicable data field is read to determine the status of the user selectable parameters and to display the status information.
