  • Patent number: 4612246
Abstract: An electrical conductor is coated with a cured, lubricating polyester type wire enamel, where the polyester type wire enamel, before heat reaction, contains acid, and hydroxyl components containing fluorinated alcohol and non-fluorinated polyol, and where a fluorinated aliphatic alcohol having a perfluoroalkyl group from 4 carbon atoms to 12 carbon atoms constitutes from 8 wt. % to 30 wt. % of the total fluorinated alcohol plus non-fluorinated polyol content of the unreacted wire enamel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1985
Date of Patent: September 16, 1986
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Newton N. Goldberg, Jacques S. Merian
  • Patent number: 4600441
Abstract: An air-drying, oil and dirt repellent alkyd paint is made by reacting a drying component, such as a drying oil, hydroxyl containing mixture of fluorine-free polyol and fluorinated aliphatic alcohol having a perfluoroalkyl group of from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and a polycarboxylic acid, and then adding a suitable solvent, and a pigment component.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1985
Date of Patent: July 15, 1986
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Newton N. Goldberg, John S. Hudock
  • Patent number: 4587328
Abstract: A heat curable, polyester type impregnating composition is made, containing acid, and hydroxyl components containing fluorinated alcohol and non-fluorinated polyol, and where a fluorinated aliphatic alcohol having a perfluoroalkyl group from 4 carbon atoms to 12 carbon atoms constitutes from 1 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of the total fluorinated alcohol plus non-fluorinated polyol content of the composition, the composition being useful to impregnate porous tapes wrapped around electrical conductors, or to impregnate porous substrates used to make laminates, the impregnate upon cure imparting water and flame repellent characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1985
Date of Patent: May 6, 1986
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
    Inventor: Newton N. Goldberg
  • Patent number: 4479990
Abstract: A photosensitive sag resistant composition is made containing cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, a flexibilizing agent, arc and track resistant filler, thixotroping agent, and an amount of a photosensitive compound effective to initiate gelation with ultraviolet light exposure, where the composition is resistant to sag upon application to a surface, and has chemical and physical resistance to arced SF.sub.6 upon cure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 30, 1982
Date of Patent: October 30, 1984
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Co.
Inventors: George D. Dixon, Howard E. Saunders, Smith A. Gause, Newton N. Goldberg
  • Patent number: 4474608
Abstract: A low shrinkage silica containing hardenable composition is made, containing an anhydrous Lewis acid, a naturally occurring medium drying oil, and submicroscopic silicon dioxide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 1983
Date of Patent: October 2, 1984
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
    Inventor: Newton N. Goldberg
