Patent number: 8507009Abstract: This invention relates to novel colonic purgative compositions in a solid dosage form, comprising at least one purgative and at least one soluble, or soluble, nonfermentable binder, such as polyethylene glycol. Further, this invention relates to methods of using the colonic purgative compositions. The present compositions and methods are designed to improve patient tolerance and compliance, while at the same time improving the quality of bowel cleansing. The formulations and methods of this invention are particularly useful to cleanse the bowel prior to diagnostic and surgical procedures and can also be employed in lower dosages as a laxative to promote elimination and/or to relieve constipation.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2010Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Skiendzielewski, Martin Rose, Ngoc Do

Patent number: 6960730Abstract: A downloadable postage rate calculating device including a platform for receiving a parcel and providing a weight for the parcel, and a processor configured to receive current rates information downloaded from a computer or other similar device. The processor calculates a postage amount for the parcel based on at least a portion of the current rates information and the weight of the parcel. The processor can also compare the postage amount for a first carrier and shipping method, with that of a second carrier and shipping method, or between two shipping methods offered by the same carrier.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2003Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: Pelstar, L.L.C.Inventors: Matthew Lawler, Paul Nizzere, Dennis Leonard, Christopher Chudek, John B. Publication number: 20040161459Abstract: The current invention relies on a process already provided in great detail in U.S. Pat. No. 60/437,507 and an associated CIP filed on May 23, 2003 and hereby incorporated by reference. However, it was noted during additional studies that if the Cushioning Beads™ were milled to a particle size between about 10 mesh and about 50 mesh and to a most preferred size of 30-40 mesh, the Cushioning Beads™ did not loose their ability to protect coated particles during compression, as would be expected because of the fine milling. Moreover, it was also discovered that tablets compressed from the milled Cushioning Beads™ immediately disperse in the mouth. A final advantage of the current invention is the improved hardness and friability. The invention produces a tablet of 2Kp or 20N hardness. A vast improvement because it allows for use of conventional manufacturing and packaging equipment.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2003Publication date: August 19, 2004Inventors: Ngoc Do, Cheng Der Tony Yu, Larry Augsburger

Publication number: 20040126422Abstract: The new process can be summarized in five general phases: the manufacture and coating of active-loaded beads with a sustained release coat, an enteric coat; a colonic coat, or a taste-masking coat; the manufacture of the cushioning components the co-processing of active-loaded beads with cushioning components into a single component known as a Cushioning Bead™; the use of freeze-drying to produce the intended outcome, and the compression of the resultant Cushioning Beads™ into tablets.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2003Publication date: July 1, 2004Inventors: Cheng Der Tony Yu, Ngoc Do, Larry Augsburger
