  • Publication number: 20150103959
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving receiver performance in a multicarrier communication network in which an encoded symbol is transmitted over a transmission channel in the communications system. A model of the transmission channel is estimated, said model characterising an effect of intercarrier interference on at least one carrier in the multicarrier system. The received symbol is decoded using the estimated model to remove a predicted effect of intercarrier interference. A pre-processor is also described for operation in conjunction with a communications receiver in the network. The pre-processor includes a channel estimator operable to estimate at least one feature of the communication channel based on a received signal. The pre-processor modifies the received signal dependent on the at least one estimated feature and provides the modified signal to the communications receiver.

  • Patent number: 8996812
Abstract: A write-back coherency data cache for temporarily holding cache lines. Upon receiving a processor request for data, a determination is made from a coherency directory whether a copy of the data is cached in a write-back cache located in a memory controller hardware. The write-back cache holds data being written back to main memory for a period of time prior to writing the data to main memory. If the data is cached in the write-back cache, the data is removed from the write-back cache and forwarded to the requesting processor. The cache coherency state in the coherency directory entry for the data is updated to reflect the current cache coherency state of the data based on the requesting processor's intended use of the data.

  • Patent number: 8938040
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improving receiver performance in a multicarrier communication network in which an encoded symbol (250) is transmitted over a transmission channel (20) in the communications system. A model of the transmission channel (20) is estimated (718, 760), said model characterizing an effect of intercarrier interference on at least one carrier in the multicarrier system. The received symbol (250) is decoded (720, 762) using the estimated model to remove a predicted effect of intercarrier interference. A pre-processor (40) is also described for operation in conjunction with a communications receiver (30) in the network. The pre-processor (40) includes a channel estimator (42) operable to estimate at least one feature of the communication channel based on a received signal. • Publication number: 20130231941
Abstract: A system and method for automated optical dispensing includes a mobile client device configured to receive a frame selection, collect measurements based on an image of a patient, and receive a lens selection. Based on the parameters of the frame selection the mobile client device determines a position of a prescription within the lens selection. The mobile client device also runs a compatibility verification to determine if the frame selection and the lens selection are compatible, and submits an order to a manufacturer for the frame selection and the lens selection when the frame selection and the lens selection are compatible. The mobile client device may also create and submit claims to an insurance clearing house for professional services and contact lens products and services when applicable.

  • Publication number: 20090193196
Abstract: The proposed system and associated algorithm when implemented improves the processor cache miss rates and overall cache efficiency in multi-core environments in which multiple CPU's share a single cache structure (as an example). The cache efficiency will be improved by tracking CPU core loading patterns such as miss rate and minimum cache line load threshold levels. Using this information along with existing cache eviction method such as LRU, results in determining which cache line from which CPU is evicted from the shared cache when a capacity conflict arises. This methodology allows one to dynamically allocate shared cache entries to each core within the socket based on the particular core's frequency of shared cache usage.

  • Patent number: 6917794
Abstract: A phase compensation circuit, for use with an FM reception system, includes a delay circuit and a control circuit. The delay circuit receives a composite input signal that exhibits a variable phase error and provides a plurality of selectable discrete delays. The control circuit is coupled to the delay circuit and receives a control signal whose value corresponds to the phase error associated with the composite input signal. The control circuit selects one of the plurality of selectable discrete delays responsive to the control signal, which is utilized to delay the composite input signal to provide a phase compensated composite output signal.

  • Patent number: 6722320
Abstract: A cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine provides a method of replacement of spent cylinder liners, wherein the cylinder liner includes a generally cylindrical body having a flange extending radially outwardly defining a shoulder. The shoulder provides a positive stop in an axial direction against a surface within a cylinder block of the engine. The body has an engagement portion adjacent the shoulder. The engagement portion is necked down from the flange and has lower and upper portions providing an interference fit within the cylinder block. The lower and upper portions of the engagement portion are separated from one another by a channel that extends substantially about the circumference of the body. The channel provides a passage for fluid flow between the lower and upper portions to facilitate cooling of the engagement portion.

  • Patent number: 6571684
Abstract: A crosshead piston assembly has a piston body with an upper head portion formed with a plurality of piston rings and a lower stem portion formed with a pin bore. The pin bore has a pair of lower, laterally spaced mounting ears presenting a bearing support surface interrupted by a lateral gap between the ears. A saddle is arranged opposite the ears and provides a bearing support surface which is continuous along the pin bore. A three-piece slipper bearing set is disposed in the pin bore and includes a pair of lower bearing shells seated in the ears and an upper bearing shell seated in the saddle. The upper bearing shell and saddle are formed with aligned oil supply and retaining holes. The oil supply hole is maintained fully open, while a retaining pin is installed in the aligned retention holes to support the upper bearing shell against movement relative to the saddle.
