  • Publication number: 20070263822
Abstract: A multi-participant service creator Application Server embeds routing information within a service identifier provided to enable invitation of users to a multi-participant service such as conference calling or push-to-talk communication. A multi- participant service routing function associated with the Serving Call Session Control Function receiving a request to join the multi-participant service checks the embedded routing information and ensures that the join request is routed to the service creator Application Server.

  • Patent number: 6947758
Abstract: For use in a mobile telecommunications network comprising a mobile switching center, a plurality of subscribers, and a plurality of processing elements within a processing element unit, a system and method is disclosed for providing a distributed processing element unit that is capable of quickly and efficiently accessing each processing element by using a temporary subscriber identification number that contains embedded address information for the processing element. Subscriber records and application software programs are located within the processing elements to avoid having to send message traffic over the network requesting such information and to avoid the use of a centralized database server. In one advantageous embodiment of the invention, the processing element unit is a visitor location register.

  • Publication number: 20050198217
Abstract: For use in a telecommunication network, a network node includes a sending entity associated with a first one of a plurality of subsystems, a receiving entity associated with a second one of the plurality of subsystems and a common interface handler in communication with the sending entity and the receiving entity. The common interface handler is operable to receive a message including identification information that is in a standard format capable of being utilized by each of the subsystems from the sending entity. The common interface handler is further operable to identify the receiving entity from the identification information and transmit the message to the receiving entity.

  • Publication number: 20050190748
Abstract: A telecommunication node controls overload conditions in a distributed processing environment using processing nodes that include: (i) a load monitor configured to monitor a loading factor for the processing node and produce real-time loading factor information; and (ii) a call processor operable to process signaling messages. In addition, the telecommunication node uses signaling nodes that include: (i) a load information list including the real-time loading factor information received from each of the processing nodes; (ii) an overload policy list including programmable overload reaction policies for each of the processing nodes, in which the overload reaction policies control overload conditions of the processing nodes based on the real-time loading factor information; and (iii) a load distributor configured to select one of the processing nodes to process one of the signaling messages based on the real-time loading factor information and the overload reaction policies.

  • Patent number: 6553227
Abstract: A wireless communication system constructed according to the present invention assigns each serviced mobile unit to a serving mobile switching center to minimize mobility management overhead and to equalize loading among a plurality of mobile switching centers. The wireless communication system includes the plurality of mobile switching centers and a base station system which includes a plurality of base station controllers, each of which couples to a plurality of base stations. A plurality of mobile units served by the system are assigned to the mobile switching centers so that loading is equalized. In one particular construction of the wireless communication system, a dispatching switch couples the base station system to the plurality of mobile switching centers and performs the assignments of the mobile units. In an example of operation, upon attachment of a mobile unit, the dispatching switch determines loading of each of the mobile switching centers.

  • Patent number: 6021327
Abstract: A wireless communication system includes at least one mobile switching center ("MSC"), at least one base station coupled to each MSC, a visitor location register ("VLR") and a visitor location register manager ("VLRM"). Each MSC couples to at least one base system controller ("BSC") which couples to at least one base transceiver station ("BTS"). Each BTS provides wireless communication within at least one respective cell, each of the plurality of mobile terminals communicating through a corresponding BTS, BSC and MSC when resident within a cell. The VLR corresponds to one of the MSCs and stores subscriber information for mobile terminals that are active in corresponding cells. The VLRM downloads, from a home location register, subscriber information for mobile terminals becoming active within one of a plurality of cells corresponding to the VLR and stores the subscriber information as a VLR record in the VLR.
