Patent number: 5800418Abstract: Absorbent composites containing particles of absorbent gelling material and chemically stiffened, cellulosic fibers, the fibers being wrapped around and adhered to the particles, which are in individual form. The chemically stiffened, cellulosic fibers are preferably cellulosic fibers in substantially individual form having a crosslinking agent reacted with the fibers in intrafiber crosslink bond form. The absorbent composites are particularly suitable for use in the absorbent core of disposable absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins and diapers.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Nicholas A. Patent number: 5656282Abstract: A pouch package, containing a volatile solution-impregnated patch, is made of a peelable barrier film. The pouch envelops an absorbent substrate saturated preferably with bug repellent fluid. A PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) coated backing film is laminated to the absorbent substrate. The backing film has a connecting portion which is peelably sealed to the inside of the pouch. When the pouch is peeled open, the PSA coated backing film is exposed and placed against a target surface, such as a patch wearer's clothing. Finally, the side of the pouch facing the absorbent substrate is peeled off the backing film connecting portion to expose the absorbent substrate. A key to functionality of the pouch package is differential adhesion. First, the pouch barrier film must be peelable from itself, yet it must not adhere to the pressure sensitive adhesive on the backing film. A release paper may be used to cover the PSA when peeling the pouch open.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1995Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Charles D. Cook, Nicholas A. Ahr, Charles J. Berg, Michael E. Hilton

Patent number: 5562651Abstract: Absorbent articles, particularly sanitary napkins, having longitudinally adjustable flaps are provided. The flaps are connected to the central absorbent body of the article by an extensible means and can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction either by manually positioning the flaps or by using an optional adjustment tab to adjust the position of the flaps. Absorbent articles of the present invention thus provide improved protection to undergarments and improved comfort to a wearer, since the wearer can adjust both the flaps and the central absorbent body of the article in an optimal position for their particular needs.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1994Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventor: Nicholas A.
