Patent number: 12221877Abstract: This disclosure may generally relate to operations performed in a wellbore. More particularly, systems and methods may be provided for measuring the position of a tool and/or tubular string downhole. The present disclosure may be able to determine an accurate position change in a downhole tool without requiring surface equipment manipulation during measurement acquisition. A position measurement system may comprise a position measurement tool, wherein the position measurement tool comprises a sensor module and a telemetry module; and a marker, wherein the marker emits a signal measured by the sensor module.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2018Date of Patent: February 11, 2025Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Donald G. Kyle, Nicholas Cole Ashford, Adam Harold Martin, Michael Linley Fripp

Patent number: 11946362Abstract: The disclosure provides a packing monitor, method, and gravel pack system for real-time monitoring of a particulate for improved gravel packing. Via the real-time monitoring, the quality of the gravel pack can be detected in real-time. Accordingly, a top-off procedure can be performed without additional tripping of the inner service tool string. Detecting when the gravel pack is approaching screen-out can also be determined in real-time. Detecting when screen-out is approaching allows the operator to prepare to stop pumping in case of miscalculations or early screen-out. In one example, the packing monitor includes: (1) a packing detector configured to, when stationary within the wellbore, obtain measurements indicating presence of a particulate in an annulus of the wellbore at different positions along a length of a screen; and (2) a packing controller configured to determine, based on the measurements, a status of the particulate in the annulus at the different positions.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2021Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas Cole Ashford, Donald G. Kyle, Michael Linley Fripp, Kevin D. Fink

Publication number: 20230228649Abstract: There is provided herein a solution for measuring the optical power loss of duplex optical-fiber devices under test, and particularly those terminated with a duplex connector interface, which allows for a one-cord or one-cord equivalent testing method whichever the format of the duplex connector interface of the optical-fiber device under test, and this without disconnecting the optical fibers of the device under test from their duplex native connector interface. There is provided an optical-fiber expansion device to be used to interconnect and adapt a power meter instrument to a variety of duplex connectors. The proposed optical-fiber expansion device comprises a pair of optical fibers having a core diameter and a numerical aperture that are greater than those of the optical fiber in the DUT connector interface, so as to make it compatible with the one-cord testing method.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2023Publication date: July 20, 2023Inventors: Michel LECLERC, Nicholas COLE

Patent number: 10948402Abstract: A glass vial illumination and inspection system may be provided with a light source and a stand. The stand may have an internal cavity configured to receive at least a portion of the light source. A recess may be located in the stand and configured to receive at least a portion of a glass vial. The stand may be configured to aim the light output from the light source toward the glass vial to illuminate the vial. The stand may be configured to position the vial such that an inspector can manually inspect the illuminated vial for defects. Methods of use are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2019Date of Patent: March 16, 2021Assignee: Genentech, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas Coles, Makayla Gessford, Andrew David Norriss, Mitsutaka Shirasaki

Patent number: 8814840Abstract: There is described a medical apparatus, which may comprise a fluid collection vessel and a sensor. The sensor is arranged to sense when the fluid collection vessel is substantially full even when the fluid collection vessel is tilted by up to a predetermined angle from its preferred orientation. The fluid collection vessel may comprise a main chamber and a sensor chamber in fluid communication with one another. The sensor is located in the sensor chamber. The fluid inlet, the main chamber and the sensor chamber are arranged such that fluid entering the fluid collection vessel via the fluid inlet flows into the main chamber even when the fluid collection vessel is tilted by up to the predetermined angle from its preferred orientation, and, once the main chamber is full, any further collected fluid flows from the main chamber into the sensor chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2008Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: Talley Group LimitedInventors: John James Henry Evans, Nicholas Cole, Chris Evans

Patent number: 8745784Abstract: There is described a mattress system (20) comprising a mattress, an airflow driving device (14) and a heat adjustment unit (28). The mattress has a mattress cover (24) enclosing an internal mattress (10) such that a mattress air chamber is formed between the internal mattress and the mattress cover. The airflow driving device is in fluid communication with the mattress air chamber via an air chamber inlet and an air chamber outlet. The airflow driving device is operable to drive an airflow through the mattress air chamber from the air chamber inlet to the air chamber outlet. The heat adjustment unit is for heating or cooling the airflow so as to control a temperature of the airflow within the mattress air chamber. There is also described a mattress. In addition, there is described an apparatus for providing a temperature-controlled airflow through a mattress air chamber connected to the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2009Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignee: Talley Group LimitedInventors: Nicholas Cole, Richard Taggerty
