Each of the plurality of constraints is of one of a plurality of constraint types. At least one of the plurality of constraints of a first constraint type is expanded to one or more constraints of at least one other constraint type. A plurality of search definitions is formulated utilizing the plurality of constraints. Each of the plurality of search definitions includes a unique constraint set excluding at least one of the plurality of constraints. A plurality of searches is performed using the plurality of search definitions to generate a plurality of search results. Data item counts corresponding to the search definitions are calculated. The data item counts and the corresponding search definitions are communicated to a client machine.

The system includes a query controller module to receive the data search request that includes constraints; a reduced constraint builder module to formulate a plurality of search definitions that are formulated to exclude at least one constraint; and a search engine to perform searches of a data source to generate search results and to utilize the search results to calculate counts of data items that respectively correspond to the search definitions. The query controller module communicates the counts of data items and the corresponding search definitions to a client machine. Abstract: A method and system of providing listing recommendations to users of a network-based commerce system including a plurality of listings arranged in a plurality of divisions is described. The method includes identifying a division of the plurality of divisions based on user interaction with the network-based commerce system, and identifying at least one frequently used search term associated with the division. A link is provided to the user to listings associated with the frequently used search term. The search terms may be ranked by retrieving frequently used search terms from a first memory location and determining a number of listings in each division associated with each frequently used search term. Each frequently used search term may then be ranked based on the number of listings in each division.
