    Abstract: One embodiment of a trailer hitch assist system analyzes image data from a vehicle camera to detect a reference object on the ground in a first location and stores a first position, within the camera's field of view, of the reference object. The first location is directly beneath the hitch ball of the vehicle. The system analyzes additional image data to detect the reference object on the ground in a second location and stores a second position, within the camera's field of view, of the reference object. The second location is directly beneath the trailer coupler of a trailer. The system calculates a spatial relationship between the first and second locations based on the stored first and second positions and camera parameters. Based on the calculated spatial relationship, the vehicle backs autonomously to align the hitch ball and trailer coupler to permit the trailer to be hitched to the vehicle.

    Abstract: A system for controlling an adaptive cruise control system can include a processor and a memory. The memory can store an override ascertainment module, an intent ascertainment module, and an intent utilization module. The override ascertainment module can include instructions that cause the processor to determine, during an operation of the adaptive cruise control system, that an action, performed by an operator of an ego vehicle, is an override of the adaptive cruise control system. The intent ascertainment module can include instructions that cause the processor to determine, during the override, an intent of the operator to change a setting of a mechanism, of the adaptive cruise control system, to control a motion-related aspect of the ego vehicle, from a current setting to a preferred setting. The intent utilization module can include instructions that cause the processor to cause the adaptive cruise control system to utilize information about the intent.

The camera can be mounted for movement relative to the body between a normal position, in which the sideview mirror housing intersects the camera and the overhead target position in the above-horizontal region, and an extended position, in which the sideview mirror housing does not intersect the camera and the overhead target position in the above-horizontal region. Movement of the camera from the normal position to the extended position can unblock camera visibility of the overhead target position by the sideview mirror housing.
