Patent number: 12185671Abstract: A baler including a flywheel driven by a PTO of a tractor, an input shaft which connects to the PTO, an output shaft which connects to the flywheel, an intermediate gear mounted for rotation between the input shaft and the output shaft, the intermediate gear being parallel to the input shaft and adapted to drive the output shaft, wherein the input shaft includes a displaceable geared collar adapted to engage the intermediate gear with either a first lower gear ratio or a second higher gear ratio. This allows the tractor PTO a lower ratio (speed) range to start the flywheel and then accelerate the flywheel to an intermediate speed before shifting and accelerating to the final desired operating speed.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2020Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventor: Nicholas H. Patent number: 11980137Abstract: A baler pickup includes crop strippers looped around a reel. A pickup frame has upper and lower mounting stubs, wherein each of the upper mounting stubs has a notch located centrally in a forward end of the upper mounting stub. A rear end section of an upper leg of each stripper is engaged with a respective upper mounting stub and a rear end section of a lower leg is engaged with a respective lower mounting stub. A distal end of each upper leg has an outer plate separated from an inner plate so as to form a gap. The upper leg has an alignment tab such that when the leg is received on the stub, the tab engages with the notch in the stub. A gap-facing surface of the inner plate has a detent, the upper mounting stub comprises a keyhole opening formed therein rearward of the notch.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2021Date of Patent: May 14, 2024Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventors: Nicholas H. Williams, Richard Alexander

Publication number: 20210378179Abstract: A pickup assembly for a baler includes crop strippers that loop around a reel, the crop strippers spaced such that spacing between adjacent strippers forms a slot that allows a tine to project outwardly from the reel. A gap-facing surface of one of the inner plate or the outer plate has a detent extending into the gap, and the upper mounting stub comprises a keyhole opening formed therein rearward of the notch.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2021Publication date: December 9, 2021Inventors: Nicholas H. Patent number: 10932414Abstract: A combine harvester including a frame and two axial-flow crop processing rotors mounted to the frame. An inner support structure is located between the two rotors and mounted to the frame by a first linkage. Two outer support structures are located outboard of the two rotors and mounted to the frame by respective second and third linkages. The inner support structure and two outer support structures carry first and second pluralities of concave grate segments at a radial distance from the respective rotors. A concave adjustment system includes a first actuator coupled to the first linkage which is configured to raise and lower the inner support structure. A second actuator is coupled to the second and third linkages and is configured to raise and lower the two outer support structures. The first linkage includes a first rockshaft mounted to the frame and aligned perpendicular to the rotation axis.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2018Date of Patent: March 2, 2021Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventors: William Ryan Haar, Nicholas H. Williams, Joseph M. Biggerstaff

Patent number: 10736270Abstract: A harvesting header has a set of centrally disposed conditioner rolls comprising conditioning structure to condition crop and a rotary cutter bed. The rotary cutter bed has a plurality of rotary cutters extending across the path of travel of the header to define a cutting plane, each cutter being rotatable about an upright axis, the conditioner rolls being behind the cutter bed to condition crop cut by the rotary cutter bed. The header has a crop-directing header windguard configured to direct the crop down towards the conditioning rolls after the plurality of cutters have severed the crop, the header windguard extending in a rearwardly direction from a position forward of the cutter bed to a position proximate the conditioner rolls, and the header windguard extending transversely at least a width of the rotary cutter bed.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2017Date of Patent: August 11, 2020Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventors: Dane Austin Mosel, Brendon C. Nafziger, Nicholas H. Williams

Publication number: 20190154120Abstract: A belt drive system for a vehicle, such as a combine harvester. The belt drive system uses a driven pulley which is selectively engageable with a driven shaft to supply rotation to the shaft. The pulley is mounted on a fixed, i.e. non-rotating, housing using suitable bearings, such that the bearings of the pulley continue to rotate and are dynamically loaded for all rotation conditions of the driven pulley, i.e. whether the pulley is engaged with the shaft or not. This prevents damage to the bearings due to false brinelling.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2019Publication date: May 23, 2019Inventors: Nicholas H. Williams, Andrew Mark VEER

Patent number: 8919789Abstract: A combine harvester has a suspension axle assembly supporting the rear end of the chassis of the harvester. Side frames of the chassis direct loading down to a transverse axle through a pair of suspension devices interposed between the side frames and the axle. The suspension devices are resilient and expandable to cushion the chassis and to provide changes in the fore-and-aft attitude of the combine. The suspension devices may be independently operated to tilt the axle relative to the chassis, and provision is made for shifting the axle longitudinally, side-to-side of the chassis to facilitate turning of the steerable rear ground wheels.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: AGCO CorporationInventors: Darren J. Nelson, Nicholas H Williams, Mark L. Cozine
