  • Publication number: 20080317715
Abstract: A method of killing bacteria before disease is caused in a mammal by applying a panel of bacteriophages on the mammal, wherein the panel comprises a first vir mutant bacteriophage mutated from a temperate prophage isolated from a first strain of bacteria, wherein the first vir mutant bacteriophage is infectious of the first strain of bacteria, and a second vir mutant bacteriophage mutated from a temperate prophage isolated from a second strain of bacteria, wherein the second v/r mutant bacteriophage is infectious of the second strain of bacteria wherein the first and the second strains of bacteria are the same species of bacteria in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; and killing the bacteria. A method of disinfection of a surface. A method of making surgical equipment. A method of treating milk and milk products. A method of identifying a bacteriophage suitable for killing a bacterium. A method of producing a panel of bacteriophages.

  • Publication number: 20030180319
Abstract: A panel of bacteriophages having a first vir mutant bacteriophage capable of infecting and lysing a first strain of bacteria, and a second vir mutant capable of infecting and lysing a second strain of bacteria. A pharmaceutical composition including a panel of bacteriophages disclosed above. A method of identifying a bacteriophage suitable for killing a bacterium by obtaining a sample of the bacterium from a patient or site infected with the bacterium, identifying one or more phage sensitivity characteristics of the bacterium, comparing the characteristics from the identification step with the known host range of each library of bacteriophages, the library of bateriophages including a first vir mutant bacteriophage capable of infecting and lysing a first strain of bacteria, and a second vir mutant capable of infecting and lysing a second strain of bacteria, and identifying one or more bacteriophages from the panel suitable for killing the bacterium.

  • Patent number: 6495344
Abstract: A DNA molecule coding for a food protein, such as ovalbumin or casein, modified so that the codons for phenylalanine have been omitted or replaced by codons for one or more other metabolisable amino acids. Also a modified edible protein coded for by such a DNA molecule. Such modified proteins are useful in the nutrition of patients suffering from phenylketonuria.
