Patent number: 10518941Abstract: A dispensing closure (40) for a fluent substance-containing system, such as a container, includes a body (54) for receiving the fluent substance from the system, a locking member (56) assembled with the body (54), and a pivotable actuator (60) assembled with the locking member (56) and defining a dispensing flow passage (190) for discharging the fluent substance. The locking member (56) is rotatable relative to the body (54) from a locking position to an unlocking position to permit a user to pivot the actuator (60) from a closed position to a dispensing, open position. The body (54) has an abutment (110) that extends through the locking member (56) in the locking position to prevent the actuator (60) from moving into the open position. In the unlocking position of the locking member (56), the actuator (60) is not prevented by the abutment (110) from being moved into the open position.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2019Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignee: APTARGROUP, INC.Inventor: Nicholas J. Patent number: 6832700Abstract: A toggle-action dispensing closure for a container is provided for manipulation between a closed, non-dispensing orientation and an open, dispensing orientation. The closure includes an actuator pivotally mounted along a tilting axis on a body secured to the container. The actuator is tiltable by applying force to the actuator on one side of the tilting axis so as to move the actuator from a non-dispensing position to a dispensing position. The actuator includes a flange having an engagable surface. The closure body includes an annular wall in which the actuator is received, and the annular wall includes an inwardly projecting interference member which underlies the actuator engagable surface and prevents tilting of the actuator unless a sufficient predetermined, initial opening force is exerted on the actuator to cause permanent, plastic deformation of the engagable surface is and/or interference member.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2003Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: Seaquist Closures Foreign, Inc.Inventors: Charles E. Roberts, Terry J. Vandenboom, Nicholas J. Jelich, Catherine F. Schultz

Patent number: 6283333Abstract: A toggle-action dispensing closure for a container is provided for manipulation between a closed, non-dispensing orientation and an open, dispensing orientation. The closure includes an actuator pivotally mounted along a tilting axis on a body secured to the container. The actuator is tiltable by applying force to the actuator on one side of the tilting axis so as to move the actuator from a non-dispensing position to a dispensing position. The actuator includes a striker rib extending downwardly at a position between an edge of the actuator and the tilting axis. The body includes a deck defining a dispensing aperture and supporting a post. The post extends vertically to underlie the actuator, preventing tilting of the actuator unless a sufficient opening force is exerted on the actuator to cause the striker rib to shear, or permanently deform, the post.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2001Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: Seaquist Closures Foreign, Inc.Inventors: Michael G. Patent number: 5642824Abstract: A closure is provided for a container opening. The closure includes a base for mounting to the container and a lid movable between a closed position and an open position. The lid and base are connected by a bistable, snap-action hinge structure of the type that includes a web having a central portion between two wider ends wherein an arcuate film hinge connects the base to the web along one side of the web between the ends and wherein an arcuate film hinge connects the lid to the web along another side of the web between the ends. The hinge structure includes an abutment surface located so that when the lid is in a closed position, the abutment surface extends adjacent the web's central portion from an elevation adjacent one of the film hinges to an elevation that is preferably adjacent or higher than the other film hinge. The abutment surface is contacted by the web's central portion as the lid is closed or opened whereby the position of the web is controlled.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1995Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: AptarGroup, Inc.Inventors: John M.
