  • Patent number: 11294269
Abstract: Screen vibration systems are provided that can vibrate theatre screens using acoustical, electromagnetic, or another type of energy while reducing the presence of image artifacts that may otherwise be visible as result of vibrating the screen. In one example of a screen vibration system, the system includes a controller and an electromechanical acoustical actuator with an open baffle. The electromechanical acoustical actuator can be uncoupled from the screen in an operational setup. The controller can provide a signal to the electromechanical acoustical actuator for causing the electromechanical acoustical actuator to output energy to displace air that is (i) in front of the electromechanical acoustical actuator and (ii) between the electromechanical acoustical actuator and the screen. The open baffle can prevent displaced air behind the electromechanical acoustical actuator from affecting the screen.

  • Publication number: 20100263707
Abstract: The structure presented herein provides a base structure for semiconductor devices, in particular for III-V semiconductor devices or for a combination of III-V and Group IV semiconductor devices. The fabrication method for a base substrate comprises a buffer layer, a nucleation layer, a Group IV substrate and possibly a dopant layer. There are, in a general aspect, two growth steps: firstly the growth of a lattice-matched III-V material on a Group IV substrate, followed by secondly the growth of a lattice-mismatched III-V layer. The first layer, called the nucleation layer, is lattice-matched or closely lattice-matched to the Group IV substrate while the following layer, the buffer layer, deposited on top of the nucleation layer, is lattice-mismatched to the nucleation layer. The nucleation layer can further be used as a dopant source to the Group IV substrate, creating a p-n junction in the substrate through diffusion. Alternatively a separate dopant layer may be introduced.

  • Publication number: 20080239297
Abstract: A multiple laser head projector includes a sensor that senses the presence or absence of a laser beam from a first of the laser heads and signals a switching device to switch to a second laser head when a laser beam is not detected by the sensor from the first laser head. Thus, the multiple laser head projector may be utilized to provide continuous operation of the multiple head laser projector when one of the lasers fails. The multiple head laser projector may also be utilized for diagnostic testing of the laser heads, such as during start-up. Further, the multiple head laser projector may be utilized to signal the power output of the laser heads and thus the expected remaining life of the laser heads.

  • Patent number: 7018076
Abstract: A high performance compound reflector and cooling system for use with a projection system having a lamp for emitting light, an ellipsoid reflector for capturing said light from a first focal point of the ellipsoid reflector and focusing said light at a second focal point co-incident with an integrator rod, and a spherical reflector for retro-reflecting light through the first focal point for reflection by said ellipsoid reflector to said second focal point. The shape of the ellipsoid reflector according to the present invention allows the spherical element to have a larger diameter at the interface between the ellipsoid and sphere. This provides a location for an air deflector in a shape similar to the back of the ellipsoid for channeling air over and outside of the ellipsoid and then along the inside of the sphere. The design of the reflector and air deflector allow cooling requirements to be substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 6930832
Abstract: An improved strap design is provided for to reducing edge reflections in tiled video cubes. More particularly, a groove is notched on the outside of the strap into which bonding compound is injected for bonding the screen mounting surface to the video cube. In addition to eliminating edge reflections, the new strap design also provides a clearer bond, without voids and cutting debris trapped between the side strap and clear screen mounting surface. Crazing is also reduced with the new bond, and there is no excessive machining requirement to create the groove in the strap, thereby saving on construction time.
