  • Patent number: 4512296
Abstract: A system for removing moisture and gases from the interior of a distributor. A moisture guard body (10) having an internal chamber (11) is connected in fluid communication with the interior of a distributor (30) and, through a selectively operable check valve (20) to the engine air intake means, such as to a spark arrester (40). During operation of the engine, both the cap (32) of the distributor and the moisture guard body are heated by the engine. When the engine ceases operation, the moisture guard body retains heat, cooling more slowly than the distributor cap. Moisture within the interior of the distributor is drawn into the warmer interior chamber (11), condensing there. Upon subsequent engine operation, a predetermined rate of flow of air through the spark arrester creates a low pressure which opens the check valve (20), providing a fluid path for evacuating the collected moisture and gases from the distributor.
