  • Patent number: 6243041
Abstract: An antenna indexing and retaining mechanism (100) for coupling an antenna stem (117) to a transceiver (701) is provided. The mechanism (100) includes a plurality of plates disposed in a first plane (173) substantially perpendicular to an axis (174) of the antenna stem (117), a first plate (102) of the plurality of plates to engage a first antenna stem surface (144) of the antenna stem and a second plate (103) of the plurality of plates to engage a second antenna stem surface (145) of the antenna stem. The mechanism (100) also includes a release plate (106) having projections (124, 125) extending into the first plane (102), the projections (124, 125) causing the plurality of plates to be disengaged from the antenna stem (117) upon translation of the release plate (106).

  • Patent number: 5980268
Abstract: A unique dual beam contact (30) for coupling elements on opposite sides of a dividing element (68) preferably comprises a single piece of metal or other conductive material to provide a contact portion on either side of the dividing element (14). Each beam of the dual beam contact can be specifically shaped or formed to provide the preferred contact pressure depending upon the application the dual beam contact. The dual beam contact includes an attachment member (34, 35) to provide easy attachment to an element of the device. Alternatively, the elbow portion (38) between the two beams could be used to attach the dual beam contact to the dividing element. The dual beam contact of the present invention reduces cost, inventory requirements, and complexity in manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 5848152
Abstract: A communication device (1600) such as a portable radiotelephone handset features interchangeable faceplates including a first faceplate (1604) and a second faceplate (1804) which are removably attachable to a housing (1602). At least one of the plurality of faceplates includes a movable element (1802) such as a keypad cover. A sensor such as a switch (1574) detects the presence of the movable element (1802) and provides a detection signal to a controller (1560) which varies the operation of the communication device (1600) in response thereto.

  • Patent number: 5832388
Abstract: A portable radiotelephone device (100) comprises a radio housing (114) having radiotelephone circuitry (1102), a battery housing (110) having a battery (1104) and an accessory housing (1100) having accessory circuitry (1106). A first latch mechanism (116) secures the battery housing (1100) to the radio housing (114) to permit the battery (1104) to power the radiotelephone circuitry (1102) via a first pair of conductive power contacts (1108, 1110). A second latch mechanism (118) secures the accessory housing (1100) to the battery housing (110) to permit the battery (1104) to power the accessory circuitry (1106) via a second pair of conductive power contacts (112, 1112).

  • Patent number: 5699070
Abstract: An antenna assembly (200) for use in a portable radio (100). The antenna assembly (200) includes first and second housings (113 and 203), a helical antenna (301) and a terminal (205). The first housing (113) is telescopically moveable with respect to the second housing (203) between a retracted and an extended position. The helical antenna (301) has a first dimension when the first housing (113) is moved to the first position and a second dimension when the first housing (113) is moved to the second position. The terminal (205) is coupled to the helical antenna (301) for replaceably coupling to the portable radio (100) by a user. Additionally, a pin (303), covered with a thickened solution (304), is disposed within the helical antenna (301)to dampen mechanical vibrations of the helical antenna (301) and a detenting mechanism retains the first housing (113) in the first and the second positions.
