Abstract: Environmentally sustainable redox species are needed for various applications, including RFB anolyte and/or catholyte materials and photoredox catalyst. Ideally, such environmentally sustainable redox species can be sourced from nature or are otherwise renewable. In some embodiments, redox flow batteries are described herein comprising anolyte and catholyte, wherein at least one of the anolyte and catholyte comprises perylenequinone electrolyte.
