  • Patent number: 7366093
Abstract: One illustrative method of reducing undeliverable server-initiated IP traffic within a wireless network (21) includes the steps of identifying that a data connection (e.g. a Packet Data Protocol or PDP Context) for communicating server-initiated IP messages from a host server (22 or 26) to a mobile station (10) has been lost or terminated; causing a notification message having a destination address corresponding to the host server (22 or 26) to be produced based on identifying that the data connection has been lost or terminated; and causing the notification message to be sent to the host server (22 or 26). The notification message may cause the host server (22 or 26) to at least temporarily refrain from communicating and/or to queue server-initiated IP messages (10) intended for the mobile station (10). The notification message may be formatted and communicated based on an existing protocol, such as Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), or any other suitable protocol.

  • Patent number: 7181204
Abstract: Several related methods and apparatus for re-establishing communication for a wireless communication device after a communication loss between the wireless device and a wireless communication network are disclosed. In one illustrative example, the wireless network broadcasts identifiers of wireless devices associated with communication losses in the wireless network over a control channel. After regaining signal coverage, a wireless device monitors the control channel to decode and compare each broadcasted identifier with an identifier of the wireless device. Based on a match between a broadcasted identifier and the identifier of the wireless device, the wireless device transmits a control message which informs the wireless network of the presence of the wireless device. Otherwise, the wireless device normally refrains from transmitting the control message to the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20040107146
Abstract: A method for conducting an e-commerce transaction between a user and a merchant is disclosed. The user has a customer account with a communication provider operating a first communication network. The customer account includes personal information about the user. The method includes the steps of: a) establishing communication between the user and the communication provider over the first communication network; b) authenticating the user to the communication provider; c) selecting a product from the merchant for the e-commerce transaction; d) retrieving the personal information about the user from the customer account; and e) completing the e-commerce transaction.

  • Publication number: 20020126770
Abstract: A system for demodulating narrowband signals from a received signal is disclosed. The system includes a downconverter that is operative to downconvert the received signal. Furthermore, the system includes a baseband processor that is configured to decode the narrowband signal from the received signal, as well as decode wideband signals. In this respect, the system is operative to demodulate both narrowband and wideband signals without the use of separate demodulation paths.

  • Patent number: 6275693
Abstract: A mobile communication device (102) communicates over a wireless bearer network which includes a base station (104) and a wireless communication system (108). To provision wireless application services the mobile communication device contacts a provisioning proxy (110) over the wireless bearer network, which in turns contacts a provisioning center (116) over a public network (114). A provisioning tunnel is then established between the provisioning center and the mobile communication device. Once the provisioning tunnel is set up, the user of the mobile communication device can subscribe to, or unsubscribe from wireless application services.

  • Patent number: 6094423
Abstract: A method of wireless communication using a hybrid of a transaction protocol and a connection oriented protocol includes the steps of initiating a wireless request from a portable subscriber to a server using the transaction protocol (106) and continuing communications using the transaction protocol (110) if a response from the server is less than a maximum transfer unit size. If the response from the server is greater than a maximum transfer unit size, then the server segments the response into data packets, wherein the portable subscriber unit and server subsequently communicate using the connection oriented protocol (114) until a subsequent wireless request is made from the portable subscriber.
