  • Patent number: 8643871
Abstract: A system and method of controlling printing of a print job in a printing system is provided. The print job includes a first section and a second section, with each one of the first and second sections including copyrighted content for which copyright clearance is required prior to printing. In one example of operation, the first and second sections are stored in memory and it is determined that copyright clearance is unavailable for one of the first and second sections. In response to such determining, either (1) printing of the one of the first and second sections is prohibited until it can be determined that a selected condition has been met, or (2) at least one operation is performed with respect to the one of the first and second sections so that only pages for which copyright clearance has been obtained can be printed.

  • Patent number: 8199346
Abstract: A system for controlling printing of a print job in a printing system is provided. In practice, a first value corresponding with a first proposed number of prints to be produced with the printing system is stored in a memory communicating with the controller. When the first value exceeds a number for which copyright clearance is available, a controller changes the first value corresponding with the first proposed number of prints to be produced to a second value corresponding with a second proposed number of prints to be produced. Additionally, when a selected condition is met the controller uses the second value corresponding with the second proposed number of prints to be produced to control the number of prints produced by the printing system.

  • Publication number: 20100020348
Abstract: A system for controlling printing of a print job in a printing system is provided. In practice, a first value corresponding with a first proposed number of prints to be produced with the printing system is stored in a memory communicating with the controller. When use of the first value for printing the print job would cause the copyright royalty to exceed a selected threshold, the controller changes the first value corresponding with the first proposed number of prints to be produced to a second value corresponding with a second proposed number of prints to be produced. Additionally, when a selected condition is met the controller uses the second value corresponding with the second proposed number of prints to be produced to control the number of prints produced by the printing system.

  • Publication number: 20090002726
Abstract: Digital front end (DFE) raster image processing (RIP) performance is enhanced by automatically releasing and raster image processing held jobs, saving the print ready pages produced for later output. In this way, when an operator moves one of the held jobs to an active state, the job immediately starts printing, as there is no raster image processing required. A method for deciding when to release another held job is based on whether the digital front end or printer are idle or busy and may be suspended when disk space or other resources are unavailable or an interrupt is received. Advantages include improvement in the digital front end raster image processing rate and utilization of idle system resources to build a backlog of jobs or pages for output, without effecting normal digital front end print operations.

  • Patent number: 5305056
Abstract: There is provided a method of performing a service on a job with a printing system in which the printing system is selectively operable in a first system mode and a second system mode. The method includes the steps of programming the job with instructions for directing the printing system to perform a selected service on the job with the programming step being performed in a selected one of the first system mode and the second mode. Additionally, the job is provided with a job tag for indicating the system mode in which the job was programmed. Finally, the system mode in which the printing system resides is determined and the job tag is compared with the determined system mode prior to performing the print-related service on the job. Preferably, the selected service is performed on the job when the system mode indicated by the job tag is the same as the determined system mode.
