Patent number: 8219753Abstract: A resource management cache of a computing device receives a request for an item. The item may include any type of content, such as an image or a video. A rendition for the item is determined. The item may be stored in a plurality of renditions for retrieval. The resource management cache can send one or more requests to one or more sources for the rendition. The sources may include remote sources and also a local source. If a source responds with an indication the rendition is available, the rendition is sent to and received at the computing device. If no sources respond with an indication the rendition is available, the resource management cache may send a message asking if a source can generate the rendition from another rendition of the item. The rendition may be generated and it is sent to and received at the resource management cache.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2009Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Steve Bumap, Joshua Shagam, Steve Szabo, Nicholas Trotta

Publication number: 20030033370Abstract: A client side transaction collection system is able to interface with applications that users use to interact (play, access, organize, find, or share) with local media such as video and audio files. This transaction collection system contains pieces for interacting the applications and a single module for managing the push of collected transactions to an external system. A server-side system is able to take from client software, website systems, or external collection systems information about user interaction with media (play, access, organize, finding, or sharing). This system is able to take the collected information and use it to update an extremely rich user profile describing past user interactions in a useful form. The process for this involves detailed archival of information, recognition of target media, updates to rolling recent activity information, and additions to aggregated interest data based on affected categories.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2001Publication date: February 13, 2003Inventor: Nicholas Trotta
