  • Patent number: 4521127
Abstract: The invention contemplates sealed lead-screw propulsion mechanism for the piston of a container for stick deodorant or the like substance, wherein the container must be filled by hot melted substance which becomes the stick after it has been allowed to cool. The seal is operative when the piston is in its lower-most position within the container, so that liquid (melted) substance cannot seep through the region of lead-screw engagement to the piston. Once the substance has solidified, there is no further need for the seal, beyond retention of aromatic ingredients, i.e., until the product has reached the ultimate consumer; and the seal is operable only upon first dispensing use of the container.

  • Patent number: 4353475
Abstract: The invention contemplates safety-closure structure involving threaded engagement of cap and bottle-neck members, wherein coacting lug formations on the respective members have compliantly yieldable cammed latching engagement in approach to a fully-closed relation of the members and wherein, once in the fully-closed relation, a positive-lock relation prevents unthreading rotation of the members. The engaged threads are sized for a quantum of axial lost-motion, and resilient action of a seal which reacts axially between the members is operative to constantly load the cap member to its axially upper limit of the lost motion. The lug formations are of such axially limited extent that, when the members are in their fully-closed relation, an axial depression of the cap member through the lost motion and against the resilient seal action is necessary to free the positive-lock relation of the lugs formations, thus then permitting a thread-off rotary manipulation of the cap member.

  • Patent number: 4299372
Abstract: The invention contemplates a sprue-gate configuration embodied in one of the cavity-defining parts of a multiple-part mold for injection molding of plastic articles. At the gate region of sprue discharge into the cavity, the sprue converges into communication with a cluster of restricted-gate orifices which are in closely spaced, angularly distributed relation about the generally central axis of the sprue. The combined area of the restricted-gate orifices may be less than the area of a conventional single-orifice gate serving a cavity of the same size.

  • Patent number: 4221494
Abstract: A roll-on applicator including a fluid container surmounted by a fitment of a plastic composition and retaining an applicator ball. A closure cap, detachably secured, constitutes a cover for the fitment. With the cap removed and the applicator assembly in a functional, liquid-dispensing attitude, the applicator ball is biased upwardly by a pair of coplanar, horizontally extending, parallel spring bars integrally formed with and spanning the ball-holding fixture, the bars bridging the fixture and supporting the ball to establish an annular fluid flow communicating passage between the applicator surface of the ball and the interior of the dispensing container.
