  • Patent number: 11689971
Abstract: A mechanism to help control connectivity of a user equipment device (UE). When the UE is served by a master node (MN) that does not support VOP service, the MN will cause the UE to not have a secondary connection with a secondary node (SN) that would engage in control-plane signaling with the UE via the UE's master connection with the MN. For instance, in that situation, the MN could avoid setting up the secondary connection for the UE in the first place. Or if the secondary connection exists already, the MN could tear down that secondary connection. By causing the secondary connection to not exist, the mechanism may help to avoid problems with operation of the secondary connection as a result of the UE tuning away to facilitate voice service.

  • Patent number: 10893526
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for dynamically modifying the radio state of a user device based on monitored properties of the user device. One or more device properties associated with the power of the user device are monitored to determine a radio state change for the user device based on a triggering event. The triggering event corresponds to the one or more monitored device properties, and based on the determined radio state change for the user device, the radio state of the user device is automatically modified. Based on the modified radio state, information is transmitted to a cell site, the information including modified user device capability information. Based on the modified user device capability information, the user device receives communications from the cell site.

  • Patent number: 10757563
Abstract: A method and system to help address this issue. When a device is within coverage of a cell that operates with a particular TDD configuration, the device will determine based on its location a set of one or more TDD frame configurations that the device would support, which could be based on maximum uplink transmission power of the UE, permitted maximum transmission power in the location, and uplink duty cycle defined by each of the various TDD configurations. The UE will then control whether or not it will be served by the cell based on whether the TDD configuration of the cell is within the determined set.

  • Patent number: 10757599
Abstract: A method and system for controlling application of MU-MIMO. The disclosure provides for considering a device's block error rate (BLER) as a basis to decide whether to provide the device with MU-MIMO service. For instance, a base station could determine which of the base station's served devices each have threshold low BLER. And on at least that basis, the base station could select each such device to receive MU-MIMO service. Or faced with a choice between devices to receive MU-MIMO service, the base station could compare the devices' levels of BLER and could select the devices that have lower BLER to receive MU-MIMO service.

  • Patent number: 9473286
Abstract: A method and corresponding system to help manage carrier-aggregation service in view of possible intermodulation distortion between component carriers. When a base station is serving a UE with carrier aggregation service on at least two component carriers, the base station determines that uplink communication on the two component carriers is likely to combine to produce an intermodulation product that falls within the downlink channel of one of the component carriers, and that the power level of that intermodulation product is likely to be threshold high. In response, the base station then modifies the set of component carriers on which the base station provides the UE with carrier aggregation service, to help reduce or avoid associated intermodulation distortion.

  • Patent number: 7437128
Abstract: A portable interference-generating device for inducing desired frame error characteristics, such as desired frame error patterns and rates, at a mobile unit receiving a carrier signal having at least one data channel having a plurality of data frames. The induced frame errors may be used to test a digital radio receiver's behavior in the presence of frame errors that may occur as a result of various impairments in a CDMA wireless communication channel. The portable interference-generating device includes a noise source that provides a noise signal and a pulse generator that is used to gate the noise signal according to a desired frame error characteristic at the mobile unit. The gated noise signal is provided to the mobile unit via a coupling element, which preferably couples the gated noise signal directly to an antenna radiation element on the mobile unit.

  • Patent number: 7206548
Abstract: A method and system for remote testing of a wireless communication device (WCD). The WCD is communicatively linked in a test environment with a host computer that communicates over a packet-switched network with a remote computer operated by a testing technician. The remote computer sends control commands to the host computer via the packet-switched network, and the host computer sends corresponding commands to the WCD to cause the WCD to take one or more actions. In a preferred embodiment, the WCD returns to the host computer a digital representation of the screen image currently being shown on a display screen of the WCD, and the host computer passes the digital representation via the packet-switched network to the remote computer for presentation to the technician. The technician can thereby view the display screen of the WCD as tests are performed. Audio and test-equipment coupling may also be provided.
