  • Patent number: 11866048
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a safety system for a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that comprises one or more electromotors powered by a battery system, wherein the safety system allows a “limp home mode” to be activated. The disclosure further relates to a battery electric vehicle provided with such a safety system. The battery system of the electric vehicle preferably is the sole power supply of the vehicle for powering the one or more electromotors for a prolonged period of time, e.g. a period of time greater than 10 minutes.

  • Patent number: 11635471
Abstract: A method of detecting a latent fault of at least one cell among a plurality of cells in an energy storage system, and a control unit performing the method. The method comprises determining State of Health Cell Resistance, SoHCR, and State of Charge, SoC, of a selected cell, wherein the selected cell is indicated to have a latent fault if a determined value of the SoHCR is higher than a reference value and if a determined value of the SoC is higher than a reference value; or determining State of Health Cell Capacity, SoHCC, and State of Charge, SoC, of a selected cell, wherein the selected cell is indicated to have a latent fault if a determined value of the SoHCC is lower than a reference value and if a determined value of the SoC is higher than a reference value.

  • Patent number: 11422193
Abstract: The disclosed subject matter relates to a method and system for detecting failures in a cell measuring circuit for a vehicle battery including a plurality of battery cells. First the method includes determining a cell voltage of each of the plurality of cells by the respective cell measuring circuit. Next, the method includes performing cell balancing to balance a cell voltage for the plurality of cells and the cell balancing times are compared to determine if there are deviating cell balancing times, and if there is an identifiable pattern in the cell balancing times which can provide an indication of a failure in any of the cell measuring circuits.

  • Publication number: 20220216705
Abstract: A method for operating a battery system with a plurality of cells, a battery system, a vehicle including such a battery system and a computer program element for operating such a battery system. The method for operating a battery system includes monitoring a state of health of each of the plurality of cells, detecting at least one malfunctioning cell, analysing the state of health of the malfunctioning cell, limiting a discharge power over a time period if the malfunctioning cell has a worst state of health in the battery system or limiting a charge power over a time period if the malfunctioning cell has a best state of health in the battery system, and reducing a minimum state of charge of the battery system over the time period.

  • Patent number: 11209493
Abstract: A method of detecting a latent fault of at least one cell among a plurality of cells in an energy storage system, and a control unit performing the method, are provided. A method of a control unit of detecting a latent fault of at least one cell among a plurality of cells in an energy storage system is also provided. The method comprises determining State of Health Cell Capacity, SoHCC, and Open Circuit Voltage, OCV, of a selected cell; wherein the selected cell is indicated to have a latent fault if a determined value of the SoHCC of the selected cell is lower than a reference value for the SoHCC and if a determined value of the OCV of the selected cell is higher than a reference value for the OCV.
