Abstract: Devices and methods for intraocular fluid injection are disclosed. A device can include a surgical instrument for an ophthalmic procedure. The surgical instrument can include a handle. A fluid compartment can be coupled to the handle and configured to hold a substance. A tool can be coupled to the distal end of the handle and have a lumen configured to convey the substance into an intraocular site of a patient. A piston can be in the handle and configured to reciprocate along the longitudinal axis of the handle to draw the substance from the fluid compartment and eject the substance through the lumen of the tool. A push button can be on the lateral side of the housing and configured to engage the piston via a sloped surface to actuate a forward stroke of the piston towards the distal end of the handle.

  • Publication number: 20230237932
Abstract: A simulated eye surgical training tool, namely an eye model that facilitates training of ophthalmic surgical procedures, such as goniotomy and trabecular meshwork manipulation. The eye model includes a core made of a rigid material and a Canal frame disposed at an upper end of the core that defines an inwardly-facing Schlemm's canal groove in an inner wall thereof. Various structures may be used in or across the Schlemm's canal groove to simulate a trabecular meshwork. For instance, a flexible sheet may span across the groove, or a soft material placed in the groove. Color or opacity may be used to distinguish the groove from surrounding structures. Also, a corneal dome having an upper hemispherical portion is mounted over the Canal frame, and a scleral dome having an upper bore is mounted around the corneal dome. The core may be mounted on one of a number of angled pedestals on a base.

  • Publication number: 20210212858
Abstract: Intraocular drainage devices and methods of making intraocular drainage devices are disclosed. A disclosed intraocular drainage device includes a tube having a distal end and a body disposed proximal to the tube. A central inlet port is disposed on the distal end of the tube and extends lengthwise internally through the tube. A central outlet port is disposed on the proximal end of the body and extends lengthwise internally through the body. Multiple transverse inlet and outlet ports are coupled to the central inlet and outlet ports, respectively. The central and transverse inlet ports are configured to receive influent fluid from an anterior chamber of an eye and the central and transverse outlet ports are configured to output the influent fluid external to the anterior chamber of the eye. Intraocular drainage and core assemblies and methods of making intraocular drainage devices are also disclosed.
