Abstract: The present invention relates to a lighting unit (100, 300), comprising a first housing portion (102, 302) having a combined mechanical and electrical connection element (104, 304), a second housing portion (106, 306) having a combined mechanical and electrical connection element (108, 308), a light source (110) attached to at least one of the first and the second housing portion (102, 302; 106, 306), and an electrical wire (112) at each end electrically connected to the first and the second housing portions (102, 302; 106, 306), respectively. Each of the combined mechanical and electrical connection elements (104, 304; 108, 308) of the first and the second housing portion (102, 302; 106, 306) have a cut-out (114, 116) adapted for embracing a portion of a fastening element (310) for allowing mounting of the lighting unit (100, 300), as well as allowing for connection with a combined mechanical and electrical connection element of a corresponding housing portion of another lighting unit.
