  • Patent number: 7457463
Abstract: A method and a system for measurement of the relative position of an object with respect to a point of reference which includes acquiring a plurality of images, each of said images being adapted to display the point of reference, processing each image of the plurality of acquired images, the step of processing each image further including the step of recognizing the object inside each of the images performed by a classifier and training with examples adapted to the construction of the classifier, and computing the relative position of the object with respect to the point of reference.

  • Publication number: 20050074161
Abstract: System for the measurement of the relative position of an object with respect to a point of reference, comprising one or more image acquisition subsystems and a processing unit of said acquired images apt to analyze such images according to recognition and localization techniques.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 5717792
Abstract: An object movement estimator (400) predicts optical flow by estimating changes in sensed images using one-dimensional correlations. Sensed image portions are stored at a first instant of time and compared with sensed image portions at a second instant of time. An optimal flow is estimated by performing a one-dimensional correlation of the sensed image portions at the first and second instants of time, and a time-to-contact is estimated based on the predicted optical flow thus obtained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 15, 1995
Date of Patent: February 10, 1998
    Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Inventors: Tomaso Poggio, John G. Harris, Nicola Ancona
