  • Patent number: 5988077
Abstract: A convertible leg apparatus is provided for use with articles of furniture, such as for supporting two tables in abutting relation. The apparatus preferably includes a double-post leg assembly mounted to a plate. The plate defines a pair of parallel slots, each elongated along parallel axes, and a pair of apertures spaced apart from an end of each slot and aligned along the corresponding axis of the slot. The slots and apertures are sized to receive an elongated fastener therethrough. The underside of each tabletop includes a plurality of fastener bores, each of the bores being aligned with one of the pair of slots or pair of apertures. Elongated fasteners, such as thumbscrews, extend through the slots and apertures for engagement within threaded bores aligned therewith. The convertible leg apparatus can be engaged at each end of a tabletop, and optimally at the joint between the abutting tabletops.

  • Patent number: 5961184
Abstract: A frame-type chair includes a frame having a base subframe and a back subframe. A seat is mounted on the base by sockets formed in the seat which receive frame ends in heat-stake and telescopic relationships. A back is mounted on the back subframe and includes sockets which receive back subframe ends in heat-stake relationships. The chair can be provided with a pair of arms or with a tablet arm.

  • Patent number: 5544941
Abstract: A foot rest is provided with a platform that can be vertically adjusted and tilted by the user using only their feet. The foot rest includes a base with a support, a tilt column that cooperates with a locking assembly, and a platform. The locking assembly can be actuated by the user's foot to vary the vertical height of the platform. The platform is slidably engaged to the tilt column to allow the user to vary the inclination of the platform from the horizontal independently of the vertical adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5292177
Abstract: A modular seating system in which at least two supporting elements serve a dual function including that of providing a seat support and an additional function. Each such supporting element includes a hollow shape having vertical supporting walls and is formed from a cured organic polymer reinforced by an inert fibrous filler such as glass fibers. The elements support a seating component that includes a beam provided with a first plate affixed at each end in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the beam. The beam is affixed at each end and suspended by one of the supporting elements. Mechanical fasteners extend through the plates and through a vertical wall of said hollow shapes. A second reinforcing plate is provided on the inside of said vertical wall, and the mechanical fasteners also extend through the second reinforcing plates, causing the first and second plates to apply compressive force on the supporting wall. One or more seating units are attached to and supported by the beam.
