Abstract: In the process of the invention, a composition is made by mixing a plurality of microcapsules containing at least an additive such as lubricants, oils, fragrances, colorants, etc., with a dispersing polymeric material to form a first blend, and compounding the first blend into a base containing at least a polymeric material at a temperature of less than 370° C., whereas the resulting composition is substantially free of segregated microcapsules and heat degraded shell.

Abstract: Self-lubricating compositions with improved friction, wear and/or melt flow properties are provided as well as a method of improving the friction, wear and/or melt flow properties of a polyester base resin. The composition includes a mixture of a polyester base resin with an aramid powder in amounts effective to provide the improved properties, and optionally, a low-density polyethylene.

Abstract: An internally lubricated thermoplastic composition consisting essentially of 5 to 50 wt. % of a polycarbonate; 35 to 90 wt. % of a polyalkylene terephthalate, a polyalkylene naphthanoate resin, or blends thereof; 0.5 to 4 wt. % of a modified polyolefin; and optionally, up to 30 wt. % of a flame retardant agent, with a balanced fatigue and dimensional stability properties. Articles molded from the composition of the invention display excellent wear performance properties.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition comprising a polycarbonate resin; a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer; and an anhydride modified polyolefin. Disclosed herein too is a composition comprising a blend of a polycarbonate resin with a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer; and an anhydride modified polyethylene, wherein the composition has a wear factor of less than or equal to about 350 in5min/ftlb-hr and an impact strength of greater than or equal to about 500 joules per meter, and wherein the wear factor is measured according to the formula: Wear Factor=[(6.1×108)(W)][(P×V)×(D)×(T)] where P is the applied pressure in pounds per square inch and V is the velocity in feet per minute, W is the weight loss in grams, D is the density in grams per cubic centimeter and T represents 100 hours.
