  • Patent number: 5210269
Abstract: Dimethyl carbonate is prepared by means of a continuous process:* by feeding, to a reaction chamber, methanol, carbon monoxide and oxygen, to a liquid reaction mixture with substantially constant composition and volume, containing methanol, dimethyl carbonate, water, and a copper catalyst;* vaporizing from the reaction mixture a stream of methanol, water and dimethyl carbonate, which is developed together with the carbonmonoxide-containing gas stream; and* recovering water and dimethyl carbonate from said vaporized mixture, in amounts substantially equal to the respective amounts thereof which are formed in the reaction chamber and recycling the other components. The process, which is essentially characterized in that in the liquid reaction mixture a methanol concentration and a water concentration are maintained which are respectively equal to, or higher than, 30% by weight, and equal to, or lower than, 10% by weight, makes it possible dimethyl carbonate to be obtained with an improved productivity.

  • Patent number: 4469897
Abstract: A method for preparing monoalkylethers of hydroquinone and of substituted hydroquinones of general formula ##STR1## in which R is an alkyl group and R.sub.1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group, wherein a hydroquinone compound of general formula ##STR2## is reacted with an alcohol or formula R-OH in the presence of transition metal salts, either in the presence or in the absence of air or oxygen.

  • Patent number: 4318862
Abstract: A process for preparing dimethylcarbonate by reacting methanol with mixtures of carbon monoxide and oxygen which also contain hydrogen. The catalyst is constituted by a salt of a metal of groups IB, IIB or VIII of the periodic system, dissolved or dispersed in the reaction medium. It has been found that the hydrogen does not interfere in the reaction, so that a hydrogen-enriched gaseous mixture (synthesis gas) is withdrawn from the reactor. It is therefore particularly advantageous in that it produces dimethylcarbonate and at the same time provides hydrogen-enriched synthesis gas.
