    Abstract: The invention is related to a plant for the classification of scrap according to its chemical composition. The plant contains a shear adapted to cut scrap; downstream of the shear an analyser of the chemical composition of the sheared material; means of transport, comprising a plurality of vibrating feeders and conveyors to transport the sheared material to the analyser; and a discharge system adapted to divide the material analysed according to its chemical composition. The shearing in a related method is followed by chemical analysis of the sheared material which allows its division into fractions of sheared scrap with different chemical compositions. The invention helps to optimise the feeding of melting furnaces with different types of scrap which are distinguished, for example, by their copper content.
