    Abstract: A method and device for detecting a signal characteristic of a sensor signal originating from a sensor. The method includes: sampling the sensor signal at a sampling rate to generate sample values; calculating a correlation measure for the sensor signal by summing up the absolute differences between two consecutive sample values of a sampling sequence of the sampled sensor signal, wherein the sampling sequence includes a certain number, N, of sample values; and determining a signal characteristic of the sensor signal on the basis of the calculated correlation measure.
