  • Patent number: 6250819
Abstract: A miniature optical component formed by the mounting of an integrated optic circuit chip has waveguides on a motherboard for connection with optic fibers. The fibers are positioned and aligned in parallel grooves hollowed out in the motherboard. The surface of the motherboard is hollowed out with female microstructures in the shape of axial buttonholes with sub-millimetrical dimensions, and the face of the chip has projecting male microstructures formed by metal deposition, capable of fitting into and sliding axially in the female microstructures during the mounting of the component. There is also provided a method for mounting a miniature component of this kind and a method for the matrix-based manufacture of a motherboard and a matrix device.

  • Patent number: 6163639
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for fitting connectors to optical elements to an integrated optical circuit (26) consisting of connecting at least one optical element to this circuit such that the outputs and/or inputs of each element are located approximately in the same plane (xoz) as the inputs and/or outputs of this integrated optical circuit (26), also located in the same plane (xoz). This process comprises the following steps:the circuit (26) is positioned on a template (35) with patterns that enable subsequent precise alignment of optical elements with inputs and/or outputs of the circuit (26);at least one block (29, 30) capable of holding the optical element(s), is positioned on the template facing the inputs and/or outputs of the circuit (26), and is fixed to the circuit (26);the template is removed, and the optical element(s) is (are) placed in each block (29, 30) the blocks then being aligned with the inputs and/or outputs of the circuit (26).

  • Patent number: 5857039
Abstract: This invention relates to a directional optical coupler including at least two optical guide cores (26, 28), in silica, lying on a cladding (24) in a mineral dielectric material, and a covering layer (30) in a polymer material, which covers the two optical guide cores, and whose index is less than that of the optical guide cores.
