  • Patent number: 10793586
Abstract: The present invention provides a quaternary ammonium etidronate compound (QAE) comprising a quaternary ammonium cation and an etidronate anion, having the Formula I. A method for the preparation of such compounds is described by reacting a quaternary ammonium salt with an etidronic acid or salt thereof. Variable ratios of each reactant may also be used to form different QAE compounds. The quaternary ammonium etidronate compounds is useful in water treatment, cosmetic, hygiene, personal care, paint, coating, wood treatment, agrochemical, antimicrobial, disinfectant, or biocidal compositions; as the compound provides high anti-corrosive and biocidal properties; and low scaling properties. A water treatment composition is also described, having a QAE compound of Formula I and a water treating biocidal agent, useful in cooling towers and other recirculating water, or recreational water system.

  • Publication number: 20190208774
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stabilized water treatment composition, containing (i) an effective amount of a hydrogen peroxide source, (ii) a first stabilizing agent, and (iii) a second stabilizing agent; which is essentially free of any peracid-based compounds, derivatives or salts thereof. A method for the using the stabilized water treatment composition to kill or to inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as gram positive or gram negative bacteria, algae, cyanobacteria, viruses, fungi, mildew, mold or combinations thereof, for various water sources such as streams, ponds, lakes, recirculating water systems, surface water, and any other suitable or desirable water sources is also described.

  • Patent number: 10344297
Abstract: A protein conferring resistance to Fusarium Head Blight disease (FHB) is described, along with the DNA sequence of the corresponding gene and mRNA copy (cDNA). The cDNA of Fhb1 gene can be used to produce genetically-modified plants having increased resistance to FHB, particularly in wheat, barley and other plants affected by the disease. The protein has antifungal properties and inhibits fungal growth, thereby providing a means for reducing DON toxin in grains. Conserved functional domains are identified in the protein. Genetically-modified plants having increased resistance FHB are also described, along with methods for producing such genetically-modified plants.

  • Patent number: 8007664
Abstract: A floating dispenser is provided for dispensing a solid, dissolvable water treatment chemical into ambient water. The dispenser includes a bucket having top and bottom ends, a top wall covering the top end, an opening for admitting ambient water into the bucket interior, and a floatation ring that keeps only the top end above water such that the interior is water filled when the dispenser floats. A basket is disposed in the interior of the bucket for carrying a solid, dissolvable water treatment chemical, such as calcium hypochlorite. The basket is buoyant and movable vertically toward the top wall of the bucket. The dispenser includes a refill indicator that indicates when most of a full load of said chemical has dissolved. The refill indicator includes a pair of tabs that are connected to the basket and slidably mounted in slots in the top wall.

  • Patent number: 7238290
Abstract: Transition metal ions have the ability to increase the oxidation performance of the inorganic peroxy salts at room temperature by possibly lowering their activation energy or by producing more reactive free radicals. When two transition metal salts are used together to decompose dipersulfate, it provides synergistic oxidation activity, better than obtained by dipersulfate or dipersulfate with either copper or zinc alone. The transition metals mentioned are the water soluble salts of copper and zinc. Oxidation performance of sodium dipersulface in presence of catalytic amount of copper and zinc salts was determined by measuring the destruction of crystal violet dye at a wavelength of 589 nm.
