  • Patent number: 5603845
Abstract: In a process of separating a liquid sample having phase portions of different densities by centrifugal separation, a phase separator container is employed. The phase separator container comprises a housing having concentric inner and outer cylindrical walls defining a longitudinal axis and a top wall and further a piston body constituting a bottom wall of the housing. The piston body defines together with the outer cylindrical wall, the inner cylindrical wall and the top wall, an annular chamber for receiving the liquid sample. The piston body is displaceable within the annular chamber for draining a phase portion separated from the liquid sample through a drain conduit means communicating with the annular chamber. The phase separation chamber further comprises a reaction chamber to which the phase portions exposed from the annular chamber is processed.

  • Patent number: 5520658
Abstract: A dispensing device for dispensing at least two fluids comprises a housing (12,22) of a pistol-like configuration having an integral handle (50), in which a spring-biased trigger (60) is received. Within the housing (12,22) of the dispensing device (10), two syringes (80,81) are received and fixated, which syringes contain respective fluids to be accurately dispensed. Provided a cover (22) of the housing is closed, the motion of the trigger (60) relative to the handle (50) is transmitted to a toothed rack which cooperates with a propeller body (70) in a ratchet-like manner. The ratchet-like cooperation allows a uni-directional motion of the propeller body (70) and prevents a motion of the propeller body (70) in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 5480378
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing a concentrate of coagulation factors, such as fibrinogen, from a blood sample, comprises a first chamber (14) for collection and separation of said blood sample so as to separate a plasma fraction, and a second chamber (15) for collection of said plasma fraction through a tubing member (22, 30) and a valve (24) and for precipitation of said concentrate. The apparatus comprises furthermore a .removable syringe (36) for receiving the concentrate from the second chamber (15) through a tubing member (32). The first and the second chamber (14, 15) are partially defined by the same integrally formed solid container wall (2) and comprise a common partition. The first chamber (14) is further defined by a piston (4) displaceable both in connection with the blood sample collection and the transfer of said plasma fraction to the second chamber (15) and in connection with returning said plasma fraction to the first chamber (14) upon the precipitation of the concentrate.

  • Patent number: 5462716
Abstract: A container for receiving and separating blood plasma into its ingredients comprises two sealingly coupled sections (1 and 2). One container section (2) and the adjacent portion of the other container section are made of solid material, and the two container sections are screwed together. The container sections (1 and 2) comprise their respective chambers (29 and 30) for receiving their respective fluid ingredients, and these chambers are interconnected through a connecting channel (31) through the abutting portions, at which the container sections (1 and 2) are screwed together. A valve seat (21, 27) is shaped at each end of the connecting channel (31) for each valve member (22, 16) for a sealing closing of the chambers (29, 30) in the separated state of the container sections (1, 2).

  • Patent number: 5017190
Abstract: A dosage unit for dosing a number of measured quantities of a liquid, such as insulin, from a cartridge (2), said dosage unit comprising a cylindrical casing (1) for the cartridge (2), the distal end of the casing (1) being provided with means for fastening an injection needle (5) with two points protruding at opposite sides, one point (7) thereof being provided to be plunged into the cartridge (2). The other end of the casing comprises a piston rod (13) for exerting a force on a piston (8) inside the cartridge (2) and an adjustment means (20) provided with an inner thread (21), said adjustment means being in rotatable engagement with an outer thread (19) on the outside of the casing (1). The adjustment means (20) is adapted to limit the length of the stroke of the piston rod (13) after adjustment in accordance with a measuring scale (37, 38) stating the desired dosage quantity.

  • Patent number: 4973318
Abstract: A disposable syringe includes first and second housing elements which are coupled together for rotation without axial movement therebetween. The first housing element receives a cartridge of a solution to be injected, and mounts a liquid outlet needle at its front end. A piston rod is disposed in the second housing element to move axially therein, and this piston rod includes a rod element and a nut element. The rod element is coupled to the first housing element to move axially therein without relative rotation therewith, and the nut element is threaded to the rod element for telescoping movement therewith and is configured to move axially in the second housing element without relative rotation therein. A pressure receiving element is mounted on the nut element.
