Furthermore, the present invention relates to methods for protecting skin from the damaging effects of solar ultraviolet radiation. This method comprises topically applying to the skin an effective coating of a sunscreen composition of the present invention. Additional embodiments of the invention use these natural UV-absorbing compounds, or derivative thereof, as additives as a means of providing UV-protective plastics, paints, and waxes.
