Data flood conditions are identified by monitoring this database (12) to identify event reports having predetermined characteristics whose occurrence exceeds a predetermined flood threshold value, such characteristics being stored in a second database (13). The data flood conditions are contained by retrieving the stored characteristics from the second database (13) and purging the first database (12) of event reports having those characteristics.
