  • Patent number: 8680748
Abstract: An electronic percussion apparatus for use with an acoustic drum. The apparatus has a base layer of material having a first side for contacting a drum head of an acoustic drum, and an opposite, second side. The apparatus has a top layer of material joined to the base layer of material. A percussion detector is between the top and base layers. The percussion detector generates electrical signals in response to percussion impacts on the top layer. The top and bottom layers each have a thickness that acoustically isolates the drum head from percussion impacts on the top layer, wherein when the electronic percussion apparatus is placed on a drumhead of an acoustic drum and percussion impacts occur on the top layer, the drumhead is acoustically isolated from the percussion impacts and the percussion detector generates electrical signals in response to the percussion impacts on the top layer.

  • Publication number: 20090179522
Abstract: An apparatus for use with an acoustic drum to produce electrical signals while muting the sound of the acoustic drum. In one embodiment, the apparatus has a base layer of material having a first side for contacting a drum head and an opposite second side, a layer of vibration-isolating material attached to the opposite second side of the base layer of material, a piezoelectric sensor positioned on the layer of vibration-isolating material, and an electrical connector fixture positioned on the layer of vibration-isolating material. The electrical connector fixture has an electrical connector that is in electrical signal communication with the piezoelectric sensor. The apparatus also has a top layer of material having an opening sized to receive the electrical connector fixture.

  • Publication number: 20060168313
Abstract: A data transmitter (10) divides incoming data for transmission into data blocks and passes them in frame transmission order to a radio link stage (16) via a serial frame buffer (14). The buffer (14) holds the data frames until the radio link stage (16) is able to transmit them. The incoming data has associated with it various parameters. The radio link stage (16) has allocated to it radio link resources. The parameters and resources, which change independently of each other from time to time, are supplied to a controller (18) which calculates high and low buffer levels therefrom. The controller (18) controls the passing of the data frames through the frame buffer (14) to maintain the number of frames in the buffer at any instant of time at a level between the calculated high and low levels.

  • Publication number: 20060140197
Abstract: A data transfer procedure enables data of a data sequence to be transferred between a transmitting entity (13) and a receiving entity (19). The entities each comprise a higher data handling layer (11, 17) and a lower data handling layer (12, 18). The procedure comprises transferring down from the higher data handling layer (11) of the transmitting entity (13) to the lower data handling layer (12) of the transmitting entity a data unit of the data sequence, which data unit comprises one or more segments. The or each segment is transmitted from the lower data handling level (12) of the transmitting entity (13) to the lower data handling level (17) of the receiving entity (19) via a transmission link between the transmitting entity (13) and the receiving entity (19). An acknowledgement of receipt of the or each segment is sent from the lower data handling level (17) of the receiving entity to the lower data handling level (12) of the transmitting entity.

  • Patent number: 5172968
Abstract: A security casing (1) for protecting a bandit type gaming machine (2) from cash theft, comprises a sheet steel carcase made up of two side panels (3) reflecting the profile of conventional side panels of a bandit type gaming machine, a base panel (4), a back panel (5) and a top panel (6), all being rectangular and approximating in dimensions to the base, back, and top dimensions of a bandit type gaming machine, so that the casing (1) as a whole is a reasonably close fit about an industry-standard bandit-type gaming machine, the panels (3, 4, 5 and 6) being secured together to define an open fronted casing, a lower door (21) releasably attached to, and extending upwardly from, the base panel (4) and extending laterally to the side panels (3) to which it is also releasably attached, a metal-lath shutter (12) located within the casing (1), at a front zone of the casing, and being movable between a retracted position in which the casing is open to provide access to the gaming machine and a deployed position, in w
