  • Patent number: 5645895
Abstract: An outer surface of an object such as an automotive vehicle body is painted by conveying the object in one direction, moving a painting apparatus in a direction opposite to the one direction, and applying a paint coating to the outer surface of the object from the painting apparatus. The painting apparatus includes a plurality of paint spray guns which are displaceable in a direction transverse to the direction in which the object is conveyed. The paint spray guns are directed substantially perpendicularly to and spaced a predetermined distance from the surface of the object.

  • Patent number: 5378505
Abstract: A herein is a method of and an apparatus for electrostatically spray-coating a workpiece with electrically-conductive paint. The workpiece is first sprayed with the paint directly subjected to a high voltage from a rotatable atomizing type spray gun so as to electrostatically coat the work with the paint. Thereafter, cleaning liquid is supplied to a rotatable atomizing head through a line for washing after completion of the electrostatic spray coating process so as to clean the rotatable atomizing head. Further, after the rotatable atomizing head has been washed, the line is dried, and the next electrostatic spray coating process is carried out after the line has been dried. The spray gun includes an inner line as a path, for supplying the paint to the rotatable atomizing head, and an outer line as a path used for washing, for supplying the cleaning liquid used to wash the rotatable atomizing head.

  • Patent number: 5288029
Abstract: An apparatus for electrostatically spray-coating a workpiece with conductive paint which includes a color changeover valve mechanism for selectively supplying conductive paint, cleaning liquid and air. A flush valve mechanism is provided for selectively supplying the cleaning liquid and the air. A first directional control valve includes an outlet and inlets. The inlets are connected to feed lines extending from the color changeover valve mechanism and the flush valve mechanism, respectively. A block line is made of an insulating material and has a first end connected to the outlet of the first directional control valve. The block line includes a second end in communication with the first end. A second directional control valve is provided having outlets and an inlet. The inlet is connected to the second end of the block line. An intermediate reservoir is connected via a feed line to one of outlets of the second directional control valve.

  • Patent number: 5269567
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a line jointing structure suitable for use in an electrostatic spray painting apparatus. The line jointing structure is used to connect to a device, an insulating line serving as a path for transportation of electrically conductive paint to which a high voltage is applied. The line jointing structure basically comprises a jointing member having a connecting portion capable of being inserted into an end of the insulating line, a sleeve disposed to cover an outer peripheral surface of the line, a nut for pressing the sleeve toward the connecting portion so as to connect the line to the connecting portion, the nut being fixedly mounted on the jointing member, and insulating seals disposed at both ends of the nut.

  • Patent number: 5208078
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of paint application. This method has the following advantageous effects. More specifically, when different paint is used, desired paint is alternately supplied to a first paint feeder and a second paint feeder from a paint feed source thereby to enable efficient painting of a workpiece by a spray gun. On the other hand, when the same paint is used, the paint is supplied only to the first paint feeder without using the second paint feeder, thereby making it possible to reduce wastefully-discharged paint and to efficiently carry out any cleaning work.

  • Patent number: 5199650
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a structure for preventing current from leaking out of devices such as a valve, an intermediate reservoir, etc., which are employed in an electrostatic spray coating apparatus for applying a desired voltage to electrically conductive paint so as to electrostatically spray-coat a workpiece therewith. The current-leakage prevention structure basically comprises any one of the devices each made of an electrically-conductive material, a container made of an insulating material, which accommodates the device therein and has a paint passage defined therein capable of communicating with the device, and a cover for externally covering the container. A creepage distance defined by the container and the cover is set to reach a desired creepage length or more capable of preventing current leakage. It is therefore possible to reliably prevent current from leaking even when a high voltage is applied to the devices.

  • Patent number: 4977000
Abstract: A substantially vertical surface of an object such as a vertical rear surface of an automotive body is coated in a coating booth in which a fluid such as air is supplied a downward direction to forcibly lower a mist of floating paint particles. Paint spray guns for ejecting paint sprays are positioned perpendicularly to the vertical surface. Then, the paint spray guns are displayed with respect to the vertical surface in a direction against the downward direction in which the fluid is supplied, while ejecting paint sprays from the paint spraying means to coat the vertical surface.

  • Patent number: 4830882
Abstract: Paint spray guns are cleaned in respective cleaning tanks. In each of the cleaning tanks, a cleaning fluid is ejected to the nozzle end of the paint spray gun by a plurality of cleaning guns disposed in the cleaning tank. The paint spray guns and the cleaning tanks are relatively movable so that the cleaning tanks are retracted away when the paint spray guns spray a paint coat over a desired object such as a vehicle body. Each of the cleaning tanks includes two flexible cover members having holes for inserting the paint spray gun therethrough. The cover members and the inserted paint spray gun close a cleaning chamber defined in the cleaning tank to prevent the cleaning fluid from leaking out. Each cleaning tank comprises a base plate and a casing detachably mounted on the base plate and defining the cleaning chamber.
