  • Publication number: 20140065297
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a flux cored electrode is described that includes a titanium oxide based flux system having a low water content, which resists moisture absorption, and which reduces the amount of impurities transferred to a weld metal comprising: providing titanium dioxide, the titanium dioxide including purified titanium dioxide; providing a solution of colloidal metal oxide, the colloidal metal oxide having an average particle size of less than about 800 nm; mixing together the titanium dioxide and solution of colloidal metal oxide; and, drying the mixture at a temperature of at least about 400° C. for at least about 30 minutes until a moisture content of the mixture is less than about 1%; and, forming a metal electrode sheath so as to include the mixture in a core of the metal electrode sheath. The purified titanium oxide includes little or no impurities that can act as nucleation sites for carbide formation in a weld metal.

  • Patent number: 7989732
Abstract: A method of AC welding that includes the step of supplying AC current with a given waveform from a power source to an advancing electrode and workpiece. The AC current is used to melt the electrode and to thereby deposit metal from the electrode onto the workpiece. The electrode includes a particulate arc stabilizing compound. The particulate arc stabilizing compound includes sodium and titanium dioxide. The particulate arc stabilizing compound constitutes over 20% by weight of the core of the electrode.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 2005
Date of Patent: August 2, 2011

  • Publication number: 20070017956
Abstract: A titanium based welding flux that includes titanium dioxide and a moisture resistant agent. The titanium oxide includes purified titanium dioxide that includes little or no impurities that can act as nucleation sites for carbide formation in a weld metal. The moisture resistant compound includes a colloidal metal oxide.

  • Publication number: 20060261053
Abstract: A flux cored, gas shielded arc welding electrode for depositing a weld metal with low diffusible hydrogen and having tensile strength greater than 90 Kpsi and a yield strength greater than 80 Kpsi. The electrode includes a nickel free steel sheath with a carbon content of less than 0.05% of the sheath and a core in the range of 13-17% of the electrode wherein the core includes primary alloy particles of iron, manganese, magnesium and nickel with a minor amount of secondary alloy particles of a silicon alloy and a boron alloy in a rutile based slag system. The nickel has a controlled amount in the general range of 1.0-2.0% by weight of the electrode and the rutile is 40-60% by weight of the core.
