  • Patent number: 8977077
Abstract: Techniques for generating a preview image in an image editing application in response to detecting user input that changes the value of an adjustable parameter of a digital image undergoing adjustment. According to one technique, instead of processing the digital image through a filter chain to generate an updated preview image, a blended image is generated through interpolation of two previously generated versions of the digital image. The previously generated versions may be generated through the filter chain. The blended image may be generated in a shorter amount of time in response to the user's adjustment than the time needed to process the digital image through the filter chain. Thus, the current preview image may be updated with the blended image sooner than is possible if the current preview image is updated by processing the digital image through the filter chain.

  • Patent number: 8538761
Abstract: Techniques are described to allow a user of a signal editing tool to “stretch” or “shrink” a selected portion of a recorded signal to change the length of the selected portion of the signal relative to a particular domain, without stretching or shrinking other parts of the signal. In the context of audio signals, techniques are provided to allow a user to “time stretch” an audio signal file to change the duration of the stretched portion of the audio. The user may select how the change affects the total duration of the audio signal. Options are provided for “shifting” the non-selected portion of the signal, or for not shifting the non-selected portion of the signal. When the non-selected portion is not shifted, the signal editing tool automatically generates audio for the gap (for shrinking operations), and automatically deletes audio that overlaps with the stretched portion (for stretching operations).

  • Publication number: 20130132848
Abstract: Techniques for concurrently presenting multiple, distinct user interfaces for a single software application on multiple display devices. Each of the user interfaces can be interactive, such that user input received with respect to any of the user interfaces (presented on any of the display devices) can change the state of the application and/or modify data associated with the application. Further, this state or data change can be reflected in all (or a subset) of the user interfaces.

  • Patent number: 8411876
Abstract: Techniques for introducing background noise segments into signal data are provided. The background noise segments are constructed from a background noise print extracted from the signal data. The background noise print may be user specified, or automatically identified by the signal editing tool. The background noise print may be stored with, and subsequently loaded as part of, the project associated with a signal. The background noise segments that are generated based on the background noise print may have different durations than the background noise print itself.

  • Patent number: 8364294
Abstract: Tools and techniques are provided to allow the user of a signal editing application to retain control over individual changes, while still relieving the user of the responsibility of manually identifying problems. Specifically, tools and techniques are provided which separate the automated finding of potential problems from the automated correction of those problems. Thus, editing is performed in two phases, referred to herein as the “analysis” phase and the “action” phase. During the analysis phase, the signal editing application automatically identifies target areas within the signal that may be of particular interest to the user. During the “action” phase, the user is presented with the results of the analysis phase, and is able to decide what action to take relative to each target area.

  • Patent number: 8307287
Abstract: Techniques are provided for generating a heads-up-display to assist users during performance of media manipulation operations. According to one embodiment, a transient heads-up-display is displayed during a media manipulation operation to assist the user in the media manipulation operation. The heads-up-display may, for example, depict three frames of a video clip when an audio clip is being positioned, on a timeline, relative to the video clip. The three frames that are depicted in the heads-up-display may be the frames located at the current starting position, cursor position, and ending position, of the audio clip. As the audio clip is being moved during the positioning operation, the three frames depicted in the heads-up-display change accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8295682
Abstract: Techniques and interface controls are described which allow users of signal editing applications to easily select previously-selected segments of the signal. As the user selects segments of the signal, the signal editing application automatically generates “selection history data”. The selection history data that is generated for a selected segment indicates the boundaries of the selected segment, and the sequence in which the selected segment was selected relative to other previously-selected segments. The signal editing application provides controls for re-selecting the previously-selected segments that are reflected in the selection history data. In response to user-input received through these controls, the signal editing tool reselects a previously-selected segment based on the boundaries indicated in the selection history data.
