Abstract: Systems and methods related to prediction-based resource orchestration in a service fabric are described. An example method for reducing an interruption rate associated with a customer application offered as a collection of services includes predicting one or more quiet time periods associated with each of the service replicas associated with a service fabric, where each of the one or more quiet time periods corresponds to a low value of a predicted load specifying a consumption of a metric by a respective service replica on a given node. The method further includes during the one or more quiet time periods predicted by a trained machine learning model, performing an impact-less failover for one or more of the service replicas by scheduling a move for the one or more service replicas from a first node associated with the service fabric to a second node associated with the service fabric.

Abstract: A data processing system implements techniques for provisioning and operating databases including receiving a request to provision a new database that includes multiple replicas. The data processing system provisions the new database including the plurality of replicas. The plurality of replicas includes a primary replica, one or more secondary replicas, and one or more delta replicas. The primary replica is configured to handle read and write operations. The one or more secondary replicas include a copy of data and transactional log information of the primary replica and are unable to handle write operations. The one or more delta replicas are a copy of the transactional log information of the primary replica and are unable to handle read operations or write operations.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for a compute cluster comprising placement and load balancing (PLB) logic that receives data (e.g., state metadata) relating to a service (e.g., database service) executing on the compute cluster, from a resource manager executing on the compute cluster, via a first API associated with the resource manager. The PLB logic receives second data from the service via a second API and determines whether a PLB action is indicated based on one of the second data or a combination of the first data and the second data. When a PLB action is indicated, the PLB logic sends a command to the resource manager to execute the PLB action. The PLB logic also receives queries from clients external to the compute cluster and may spawn a child PLB logic to offload PLB operations, respond to queries, or perform software validation in the child.
